This is supervisory electrical inspectional and regulatory work. An incumbent participates in and directs the activities of a small group of inspectors engaged in checking all types of electrical equipment and installations to ensure that plans, workmanship materials, methods and safety precautions conform to specifications and the requirements of the electrical by-law. Duties include performing the more complex electrical inspections, coordinating and checking the work of subordinate inspectors, and providing technical advice to electrical installers, designers and suppliers in the field and office on electrical installation matters. The Electrical Inspector 2 explains and interprets electrical by-law regulations and provides technical assistance to interested parties in the office and field; checks plans of electrical installations by owners, contractors and electricians; inspects all types of industrial, commercial and residential construction to ensure materials used have been approved by the Canadian Standards Association and that work done conforms to Electrical Bylaw, prepares objection notices as required and re-checks to ensure changes made before passing construction; supervises work of the electrical inspection section, assists Electrical Inspectors with difficult or unusual technical and enforcement problems; carries out special investigations and prepares technical reports, gathers and presents evidence against offenders of the Municipal Electrical Bylaw; maintains annual re-inspection service of public buildings and large commercial and industrial buildings, and surveys fire damaged buildings. Performs related work as required.

Qualifications include completion of Grade 12 and apprenticeship in electrical work plus considerable experience as an Electrical Inspector 1; or an equivalent combination of training and experience. Thorough knowledge of the Canadian Electrical Code and electrical by-law; of the standard methods, materials, tools and equipment of the electrical trade. Ability to interpret plans and specifications; to recognize faulty construction and hazardous conditions applicable to electrical installations; to enforce regulations impartially and tactfully; to train and supervise subordinate electrical inspectors. Skill in the use of standard testing devices of the electrical trades and in the detection of faulty wiring and installations. The Journeyman Electrician Red Seal Certificate of Registration and the Inspector\xe2\x80\x99s Certificate of Qualification as a Safety Officer from BC Safety Authority are required. A valid Driver\xe2\x80\x99s Licence for the Province of British Columbia is further required for this position.
