The Opportunity:

Our client, a consulting services firm specializes in food, agriculture, and related industries with a focus in engineering, strategic business recommendations, process improvement, and food safety specialization. The company has championed the conceptual layout and construction of multiple processing plants throughout North America. This firm is looking to add an electrical technologist to their team.
The technologist will assist in the development and production of construction drawings utilizing REVIT and AutoCAD. The successful individual will have in-depth working knowledge and understanding of the construction industry, building systems, national, provincial, and local building codes, and by-laws.

What You\'ll Be Doing:

  • The technologist will assist in the development and production of construction drawings utilizing REVIT and AutoCAD. The successful individual will have in-depth working knowledge and understanding of the construction industry, building systems, national, provincial, and local building codes, and by-laws.
  • With the supervision of senior staff, the designing of substation, electrical equipment arrangements, lighting layouts, as well as HV and LV single line diagrams.
  • Provide electrical calculations such as volt-drop, illumination level, distribution transformer sizing, and panel loading.
  • Preparation and review of contract documentation.
  • Develop and prepare electrical specifications as required (project specific).
  • Operate computer-aided-design (CAD) software such as AutoCAD as well as building-information-modeling (BIM) software such as Revit.
  • Work towards identification, analysis, and resolution of problems.
  • Create technical reports, documentation, low and medium voltage calculations, and sketches.
  • Maintain up-to-date electrical engineering knowledge and stay current with industry trends and best practices.
Essential Skills and Qualifications * Intermediate user of current versions of AutoCAD and REVIT.
  • Demonstrated initiative and judgment in applying standard procedures and in problem solving.
  • Ability to deal with multiple tasks and conflicting deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong customer service skills including presenting ideas and the ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
  • Advanced knowledge of Canadian electrical standards and the Ontario Electrical Safety Code.
  • Demonstrated understanding and ability in the detailed design of electrical systems.
  • Extensive knowledge in the production of high-quality electrical drawings and documents.
  • Excellent organizational skills and strong attention to detail.
  • Proficient in performing key responsibilities with minimal direction and oversight.
  • Deep understanding of engineering principles and procedures.
  • Willingness to learn and train those in need.
What You\'ll Need to Be Successful:
  • Completion of a College or University diploma or degree in Electrical Engineering.
  • 2 + years experience in a computer-aided drafting setting with a focus on electrical engineering.
  • Work experience designing HV substations, MV and LV distribution systems.
  • Work experience with fire alarms, lighting and emergency power generation preferred.
  • Work experience with power/control of mechanical systems including HVAC.
  • Certified or working towards certification with a provincial professional association for engineering technicians and technologists, such as OACETT
  • Previous experience in the Agri-food, beverage, and/or pharmaceutical industries is considered an asset.
