Tyto Robotics is seeking an entry-level Electrical Engineer to join our engineering team. We design, develop, and build data acquisition systems for propulsion systems used on UAVs and eVTOLs.
As an Electrical Engineer, you will contribute to development projects in areas such as circuit design, signal processing, firmware development, and sensor instrumentation.
This position requires a strong portfolio of projects, and candidates are encouraged to showcase relevant projects from their academic studies or previous internships.
Responsibilities
Circuit Design & Review
Design analog and digital circuits using EDA tools (e.g., KiCad, Altium, Eagle).
Conduct design reviews to ensure performance, manufacturability, and compliance with standards.
Prepare design documentation and revision history.
Prototyping and Assembly
Assemble and test prototypes, including soldering (SMD and through-hole), drilling, and mechanical integration.
Wire and connect components, sensors, and power systems for development and testing.
Modify hardware as needed for rapid iteration.
System Integration & Testing
Integrate sensors and subsystems into a functional unit.
Perform validation testing, troubleshooting, and debugging using lab equipment.Ensure system performance meets design requirements across electrical, firmware, and mechanical aspects.
Firmware Development
Develop embedded firmware in C/C++ or equivalent for microcontrollers (e.g., STM32, AVR, ESP32).
Interface with various hardware peripherals (ADC, I2C, SPI, UART, GPIO, PWM).
Support in-field updates, bug fixes, and feature development.
Sensor Instrumentation
Implement and calibrate various sensors for physical measurement (e.g., temperature, pressure, force).
Interpret sensor data and integrate it into the system workflow.
Documentation & Reporting
Maintain Bills of Materials (BOMs), schematics (SOM), and test documentation.
Write clear and detailed records of tests, design iterations, and technical decisions.
Requirements
Bachelor's degree or higher in Electrical Engineering
Being eligible for either EIT in Ontario, or CPI / PRT in Quebec
Good to have some internship experience in electrical engineering, more preferably in sensing technologies, signal processing, real-time data processing.
Strong academic background in mixed signal design principles.
Proficiency in at least one PCB design software
Intermediate background in electronics and embedded systems
Proficiency in hands-on prototyping and hardware debugging
Experience with common lab equipment (multimeter, oscilloscope, logic analyzer
Experience using simulation tools (LTspice, PSpice, Simulink, or similar)
Familiarity with version control systems (e.g., Git)
Knowledge of of PCB manufacturing and assembly processes (layer stackups, impedance control, DFM/DFT)
Demonstrated ability to quickly solve problems, identify root causes, and possess a strong troubleshooting mindset
Assets
Bilingual French and English
Understanding of coding principles and Python programming
Basic understanding of grounding, shielding, and EMI/EMC control techniques
Knowledge in electrical propulsion system, ESC controllers, power distribution
