Key Responsibilities of Role:
Design control systems to automate equipment machinery (Material handling & conveyor systems) and comply with customer specifications
Create detailed schematics, BOMs, and technical documentation for control systems
Conduct motor power, wire gauge selection, and electrical load calculations
Ensure design accuracy, compliance with industry standards, and cost efficiency
Support procurement processes by entering data into the MRP system
Develop PLC, HMI, and SCADA programs to fulfill machine requirements and customer specifications
Able to perform on-site machine start-ups, programming, debugging, and troubleshooting
Able to integrate machinery with existing equipment or third-party vendors
Ability to read and understand electrical drawings and schematics
Collaborate with engineers and production teams to optimize automation solutions
Qualifications
BSE or BEng in Electrical Engineering or Electrical Engineering Technologist diploma
3+ years of experience in automation controls design
Proficient with AutoCAD & MS Office Applications
Competent with Rockwell and/or Siemens software (Studio 5000, FactoryTalk View, TIA Portal)
Certifications:
309A Construction & Maintenance License
are considered an asset
Experience with VFDs, servos, safety programming (Category 4 systems)
Familiarity and knowledge with common industrial network protocols (such Ethernet/IP, Profinet, IO-Link)
What You Bring:
Ability to produce/build error free products consistently and adhere to all Almac forms, policies and procedures
Strong troubleshooting and commissioning skills for advanced control systems
Self-motivated, detail-oriented, and able to work independently or in a team
Have excellent communication skills in English, both verbally and in writing
Understanding and experience with hand and power tools
Capacity to lift and move heavy objects as necessary up to a maximum weight of 26kg
Ability to travel within Canada and United States on an as needed basis with some overnight required
