WHY DO WE NEED YOU?



The Electrical / Automation Engineer will assist with the development and implementation of World Class Manufacturing (WCM) projects, production, processing methods and controls in a manner consistent with CertainTeed Insulation, Mission, Values and Objectives. Through the application of engineering fundamentals and advanced process control tools, this position will ensure that processes are centered, capable and in control; reduce process variations; and resolve special causes variation. The Electrical / Automation Engineer will also support the plant and company strategic initiatives including capital projects that involve electrical process control systems and provide leadership in the implementation and support of plant automation, electrical and database systems.


ESSENTIAL DUTIES




Reports directly to the Technical Services Manager. Responsible for safety throughout the plant, making sure all CertainTeed safety rules are followed. Supervising 4 industrial electricians and 2 Apprentices. Assist and train Electricians with any difficult troubleshooting issues. Provide support and assistance for emergencies during afterhours or weekend. Solid communication skills at all levels and the ability to provide leadership. Uses advanced tools / techniques to improve reliability. Programming and troubleshooting with Rockwell Automation products, RS logics 5000, Studio 5000, SCADA. Organize work orders, ordering parts, prioritizing work orders in SAP software, post on call schedule. Managing all electrical work in the buildings and the grounds, including the High Voltage towers. Responsible for planning, evaluating, organizing and implementing automation and Maintenance related projects and initiatives. Identifying new opportunities and solutions with cost / benefit analysis and making recommendations to improve efficiencies. Planning and scheduling of projects and preparing capital expenditures. Provides technical expertise, support and enhancement of automation related systems (PLC / HMI / VFD / Instrumentation / Data and Voice Networks / plant electrical distribution systems) and implements required updates to avoid technical obsolescence. Ensures CertainTeed insulation standards of safety, quality and reliability are built into power distribution and control systems. Develops and maintains standard operating procedures and work instructions. Provides training for operators and maintenance personnel. Assures good housekeeping practices following 5S systems, enforces plant rules and safety regulations, and supports WCM initiatives. Continuously evaluates workplace for safety concerns and ensures behavioral safety initiatives are performed to goal levels. Travel to other plants when needed.

REQUIREMENTS




Post-Secondary Degree in electrical / Automation engineering or equivalent. Two to Five (2-5) years of applied professional experience in Electrical, Instrumentation & Controls (I&C) / PLC. Experienced with National Electrical Code (NEC), Arc-Flash (Z462) code requirements and Ontario electrical code. Expertise in integrated automation and information systems in a manufacturing environment. Flexible, open-minded team player with excellent written and verbal communication skills. Excellent interpersonal and problem solving capabilities to work effectively in corporate, manufacturing and team environments. Ability to provide leadership and innovation at all levels of the organization. Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite. Proficient in AutoCAD Electrical
