Faculty of Veterinary Medicine

is currently seeking a Full-time Limited Term

Educational Design & Resource Specialist

for approximately 2 years.


The Educational Design and Resource Specialist plays a pivotal role in supporting high-quality teaching and learning experiences across the DVM program. This position partners with faculty instructors and other instructional designers to enhance instructional design, learning resources, curriculum development, and quality assurance processes. The Specialist also supports the integration of educational technologies, video content development, and learning analytics to promote continuous improvement and student success. The Specialist reports directly to the Manager, DVM Program Administration. There is significant linkage, day-to-day collaboration, and accountability to the Associate Deans, Curriculum.


Serving as a key member of the instructional development team, this role combines pedagogical knowledge with project coordination, technical support, and a strong understanding of adult education principles. The successful candidate will be passionate about learner-centered design, have a strong eye for detail, and demonstrate a collaborative mindset to support faculty in achieving educational excellence.


While the position is primarily based at Spy Hill Campus, occasional travel to the Foothills Campus is required. Reliable transportation and occasional work outside regular hours are expected.

Summary of Key Responsibilities

(job functions include but are not limited to):


Instructional Design & Faculty Support:

Support the design, development, and continuous improvement of instructional activities Support faculty in translating learning outcomes into effective instructional activities, materials (e.g., PowerPoint, presentations) and assessments Facilitate curriculum mapping processes to ensure vertical and horizontal alignment of learning objectives across courses and programs Conduct regular reviews of instructional content and assessment tools based on learning theories and evidence-based practices to identify areas for enhancement and support continuous curriculum improvement Collaborate on the development of instructional materials that reflect inclusive, accessible, and learner-centered design principles Provide logistical and instructional support for simulation days, including coordination with instructional coaches, sessional instructors, troubleshooting issues, and guiding student engagement Stay informed of current trends and research in adult education, curriculum development, and educational technologies

Quality Assurance;

Collaborate with faculty and instructional designers to align curriculum design and instructional delivery with accreditation standards, institutional goals, and learning outcomes Support the development, revision, and assessment of academic programs to ensure alignment with regional and programmatic accreditation requirements, with a focus on rigor, coherence, and measurable outcomes Guide the articulation and mapping of course and program learning outcomes, ensuring alignment across institutional and accreditation frameworks Assist in designing and implementing assessment plans at the course, program, and institutional levels, and analyze data to support evidence-based improvements Facilitate the integration of assessment findings into curriculum and instructional planning to enhance teaching effectiveness and student learning Maintain accurate documentation of curriculum maps, assessment methods, rubrics, and instructional strategies for accreditation and continuous improvement efforts Collect, analyze, and interpret data from multiple sources, including student assessments, evaluations, and faculty input, to identify trends and inform instructional decisions

Video Content Creation and Editing;

Record and edit educational video content under the direction of faculty and instructional staff Perform basic video editing (e.g., trimming, adding titles or captions), ensuring formatting, consistency and accessibility standards are met, and upload/tag content using established file-naming conventions and shared platforms Support editing and repurposing of existing video materials to ensure alignment with updated curriculum Maintain basic tracking documents or spreadsheets of available videos and their intended use

Intellectual Property and Copyright:

Provide guidance on intellectual property (IP) rights and copyright compliance related to course content, multimedia, and other educational materials developed by faculty, staff, or students Maintain compliance records and track necessary forms and documentation Review and advise on the appropriate use of copyrighted materials in instructional design and digital learning platforms, ensuring adherence to university policies and relevant legislation Collaborate with faculty and instructional designers to secure permissions, apply licenses (e.g., Creative Commons), and develop original content with proper attribution and usage rights Maintain currency on copyright and intellectual property policies within the university and provide training and workshops to increase awareness and compliance

Knowledge Management:

Develop and maintain knowledge repositories (e.g., intranet, digital libraries, FAQs) to centralize university policies, academic procedures, and research guidelines Implement tools and processes to support knowledge capture and retrieval, including taxonomy and metadata structures Collaborate with IT and library services to enhance knowledge platforms and user experiences Analyze usage data and stakeholder feedback to improve knowledge systems and practices

Qualifications / Requirements:



Master's degree is required, ideally in Education, Instructional Design, or Educational Technology is required Five to Ten years of directly related instructional design experience is required Teaching experience is essential; teaching experience in education is strongly valued Demonstrated ability to lead projects and initiatives related to learning and instructional design is required Strong ability to incorporate instructional design theories and practices, scholarly evidence, and professional experiences Strong demonstrated understanding of pedagogical theories and evidence-informed learning and instructional design practices in a university context Experience with educational quality assurance is required Demonstrated commitment to fostering the development of expertise in teaching and learning to promote continuous learning and improvement Experience required designing, developing, and producing educational resources and instructional materials to support online and face-to-face learning environments Proficiency in a wide range of online learning technology platforms such as D2L Brightspace, Articulate 360, etc. Experience utilizing collaborative tools such as OneDrive, Teams, Qualtrics and Zoom Experience with administering learning technologies, developing online, video and print-based resources Experience with workshop facilitation and presentation, including online training Strong facilitation skills, including experience designing, delivering and evaluating workshops, programs, projects, and consultations Strong ability to determine their work-related priorities and deadlines for the purpose of achieving collaborative team and individual project plans Strong written and oral communication and presentation skills, including an ability to summarize technical information to a non-technical audience Strong leadership, self-motivation, self-direction, and an ability to work independently and as part of a team
