The

Faculty of Veterinary Medicine

is currently seeking a Full-time /Limited Term

Communications and Marketing Coordinator

for approximately 1 year.


Reporting primarily to the Manager of Marketing and Communications, this position will provide communication and marketing support to the Marketing and Communications team at the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine. The position requires effective ongoing communication and collaboration with other staff, faculty members, and students. The individual will be required to work both independently and in a fast-paced team environment with frequent deadlines and shifting priorities. Work duties outside of normal office hours will be infrequent but will be required.


This position will work under the day-to-day supervision and collaboration with the Coordinator, Marketing and Communications, the Events Coordinator, and the Digital Communications Advisor. The incumbent will assist with the Coordinator, Marketing and Communications with the development of communication plans, marketing materials, and social media posts. The incumbent will assist the Digital Comms Advisor with updating, maintaining, and developing new webpages and content, and the Events Coordinator with tasks related to Signature Events.


The position works collaboratively with the Office of Communications and Community Engagement to ensure that marketing strategies developed in the centre align with the University of Calgary brand and help to advance overall institutional direction.

Summary of Key Responsibilities

(job functions include but are not limited to):

Maintain and provide updates to the Faculty website, including the development and re-design of newly or existing Drupal web pages Work in collaboration with the Coordinators on creating various marketing and communications materials that support and promote the Faculty's associated events and activities Assist in producing monthly and quarterly reports and weekly newsletters for the Faculty and collaborative stakeholders Collaborate with Coordinator on social media calendar and content General admin support: coordinate and lead team meetings, take minutes, keep team members updated on important events, track progress and oversee projects on Asana Assist Manager with admin and finance tasks as needed Monitor room bookings inbox Build and maintain a content calendar of activities to support overarching marketing plans Contribute to organization wide decisions that pertain to marketing and communication Work closely with Faculty shareholders to share their work with the public Support Events Coordinator with signature event tasks including but not limited to event promotion, registration coordination, set up and tear down, technology coordination for hybrid events Provide support to the marketing and communications team with miscellaneous tasks related to the marketing and communications of the Faculty

Qualifications / Requirements:



At least 6 months communication experience in a professional environment Minimum degree in marketing, communications, public relations, or other related field One to two years of experience in marketing and communications (including social media) Strong written and verbal communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills Intermediate to advanced knowledge of MS Office software Experience using social media scheduling tools and understanding associated analytics (Hootsuite, Later) Experience with platforms such as Marketo and LiveWhale or related platforms an asset Experience designing and/or updating websites (particularly on a Drupal platform) Proficient in skills in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, Teams), as well as Canva, Zoom, and project management platforms like Asana High level of ability to translate complex subjects into simple language Respectful, collaborative approach to working with various stakeholders High level of problem-solving abilities and uses research and analysis to solve complex problems Excellent interpersonal communication and collaboration skills Excellent organizational and time management skills Demonstrated ability to maintain confidentiality Positive, can-do attitude, and passion for animals and their care Ability to pay attention to detail and accurately perform work Passion for animals and animal medicine
