The Kawartha Pine Ridge District School Board (KPR) offers a world-class education for approximately 35,000 students in 87 schools. The purpose of the Educational Interpreter position is to provide visual presentation of what is being said to students who are deaf or hard of hearing using various modes of communications such as cues, sign language, finger spelling or oral interpretation and verbal communication from these students to others, to assist with the attainment of academic concepts and facilitate activities that contribute to school life experience.
Qualifications Required
Education & Experience:
High school diploma or equivalent.
Interpreter Training Diploma for Deaf Education (a 3 year College Program).
One (1) to three (3) years experience.
200 hours of American Sign Language required before admission to the educational program.
Finger spelling and advanced level computer skills for word processing and spreadsheets.

School Principal
MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES:
Works with the teacher to understand concepts being taught to communicate the information effectively to the student;
Facilitate communication, provide interpretation from English to American Sign Language between student and others;
Provide support for social interaction between students and peers;
Carry out programming issues as outlined in Individual Education Plans;
Assist with the supervision of in-school and out-of school activities;
Preplan in order to ensure information , procedures and technical language is understood with impartial interpretation;
Prepare and carry out individual or small group tutor sessions to review vocabulary and to reinforce specific topics being covered in regular classes;
Provide intensive specific support for students who require assistance in accessing the curriculum;
Performs other duties as assigned by the School Principal.

This position does not supervise.

Demonstrates concern for the accuracy and quality of work and takes steps to correct mistakes and improve the overall product.
