Job Description

Summary:


The Education Director will plan, organize, direct and control all education activities in order to ensure
continuity, proper functioning, and productivity to attain the specific educational goals and direction provided by
the TFN Chief and Council, the local education authority, and/or TFN community.

Education & Experience:



Bachelor's degree in administration and/or education Minimum 3 years' experience in management Minimum 7 years' teaching experience, preferably in a First Nations context

Knowledge & Skills Requirements:



Knowledge of Timiskaming First Nation (TFN) services, administrative and operational policies and
procedures, and financial budgeting and reporting practices;

Knowledge of all Microsoft Office programs, Adobe Acrobat, use of e-mail using Outlook, and use of the
internet;

Strong interpersonal skills; Knowledge of education systems in the provinces of Quebec and Ontario; Knowledge of the Anishnabe culture; Excellent communication skills, both oral and written; Proven track record of planning, organization and control, along with effective filing management skills; Project management skills; Analytical and decision-making skills; Self-directed, with motivating leadership skills, including high levels of diplomacy, tact, initiative,
analysis and judgement;

Ability to work, and encourage others to work, as highly-developed team members; Ability to represent TFN with a professional image; Bilingualism would be an asset (English/French).

Responsibilities:



Prepare annual budget for approval according to parameters provided by Chief & Council for the
education domain.

Undertake annual and long-term planning with the local education authority, as well as Chief & Council,
to establish specific objectives for the education programs, and oversee the activities of the various
sectors and program officers to ensure that these operational objectives are met.

The Director is at the core of all communications of a strategic nature, and is in regular contact with the
local education authority, and the Council portfolio holder, to inform them of the education program
status; concludes agreements; deals with particular situations; and ensures that a good program image is maintained.

The Director communicates regularly with all of the education program staff and stakeholders. The Director is responsible to ensure that information concerning various internal and external projects, decisions regarding operations, Council decisions, or particular situations, and any other important information is disseminated to all of the staff through program officers or direct communication. Ensure that funding expenditures meet with funding agents' criteria, and that all reporting requirements are completed in a timely fashion. Resource, cultural/recreational, and general administrative activities.

Pay: $60,500.00-$99,000.00 per year
