Summary
The role of the EDI Liaison is to ensure effective management and implementation of Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion (EDI) matters aligned with the mission of the newly acquired New Frontiers in Research Fund Transformation (NFRF-T) grant. This position, operating within the EDI committee governed by the NFRF-T grant, plays a crucial role in developing functional EDI-related responsibilities and fostering their successful execution. This position requires a high level of expertise and familiarity with UBC policies for these diverse tasks.
This is a part-time position, 25% FTE (10 hours per week) and the salary indicated above will be prorated accordingly.
It is a one-year term position with the possibility of extension.
Organizational StatusReports directly to the committee members and the chair of the NFRF-T EDI committee.
Regular interaction with the EDI committee chair, members, and students engaged in research for the NFRF-T grant.
Upholds relationships characterized by respect, professionalism, and competence.
Work PerformedDevelop and conduct regular surveys to uphold the EDI mission stipulated by the NFRF-T grant.
Draft EDI policies and the website's EDI statements, and discuss with the EDI committee based on the grant commitment.
Deliver EDI lectures at the annual EDI symposia.
Collaborate with all NFRF-T grant group members to guide EDI integration into their management plans.
Develop and manage the budget for EDI symposia and associated meetings.
Monitor EDI implementation in student recruitment and report to EDI committee.
Advice on EDI committee's action plans.
Engage with students to gather firsthand insights into EDI integration.
Monitor EDI progress and identify issues, proposing solutions in consultation with the EDI committee.
Ensure secure filing of all EDI-related documentation.
Collaborate with the EDI committee to establish EDI training modules.
Interface with facility users to facilitate infrastructure access as per committee-defined needs.
Consequence of Error/Judgement
This position is required to take initiative to solve most problems which requires modifying established methods or procedures. Inaccuracies may lead to mismanagement of resources which could result in financial losses and a negative reputational impact. Streamlines existing procedures and recommends changes for process redesign. All information must be accurate and provided in a respectful, timely and supportive way.
Supervision Received
Work independently in accordance with established procedures and directly with the committee members of the EDI committee.
Safety and Work ArrangementPosition operates as a "work from home" role with occasional annual in-person meetings at various locations in Canada.
All interactions conducted online between the EDI liaison, committee members, students, and PIs.
Preferred Qualifications
Undergraduate degree in a relevant field. Training or certification in equity, diversity and inclusion, or similar work be a strong asset. 5 years' experience in the equity, diversity and inclusion, or similar space. An appropriate combination of education, work, and life experience may be considered. Experience facilitating workshops would be an asset. Ability to design, deliver, and source programming and/or training. Solid understanding and experience with best-practices, policies, processes and metrics in diversity and inclusion. Ability to effectively use Microsoft Office Suite (e.g., Outlook, MS Word, MS Excel). At an advanced level ability to anticipate problems and issues and plan ahead. Ability to accurately create and maintain records. Ability to work effectively independently and in a team environment. Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing. Ability to make thoughtful, informed, and thorough decisions. Ability to analyze problems, identify key information and issues, and effectively resolve.
Compensation
Annual compensation ranging from $15,000 to $25,000, based on experience.
Criticality of Position
The EDI Liaison's role is critical in successfully integrating EDI principles into all aspects related to the NFRF-T grant's EDI guidelines and requirements, ensuring its effective implementation.
