Programs Director
The ECE Programs Coordinator is responsible for developing, implementing, and evaluating high-quality early childhood education programs for children aged 0-5 years and their families. This role focuses on creating a safe, nurturing, and inclusive learning environment that supports children's holistic development -- physical, social, emotional, and cognitive. Working in partnership with families, staff, community partners, and volunteers, the ECE Coordinator ensures that programs are developmentally appropriate and aligned with BGC Dawson's mission and values.
This position requires the Coordinator to be on-site, in person, to provide direct support to the ECE team and members. The regular work schedule is Tuesday to Saturday from 8:30 AM to 4:30 PM, based on program needs.
Key Responsibilities
Program Development & Delivery
Design, implement, and evaluate age-appropriate activities that promote learning, creativity, exploration, and development for children aged 0-5.
Maintain a warm, safe, clean, and engaging environment for children, both indoors and outdoors.
Supervise daily routines including toileting, hygiene, meals/snacks, and transitions.
Integrate culturally responsive and inclusive practices into program planning and classroom environments.
Conduct regular developmental assessments, including pre/post evaluations, to support children's individual growth.
Design and facilitate interactive parent-child activities and literacy-based workshops.
Family & Community Engagement
Build and maintain positive relationships with families to ensure open communication about children's development and program updates.
Encourage family involvement and provide support through regular check-ins, newsletters, and engagement opportunities.
Represent BGC Dawson at community networks such as the Table de concertation Famille de Verdun.
Collaborate with local schools, organizations, and partners to enhance program quality and meet emerging needs.
Supervision of Staff
Supervise, mentor, and train program staff and volunteers to ensure high standards of care and program delivery.
Ensure staff are equipped with the skills and resources needed to deliver high-quality programs.
Conduct regular check-ins and performance evaluations to foster staff development and ensure alignment with program goals.
Teamwork & Collaboration
Work collaboratively with the Programs Team, including the Programs Director and other coordinators, to promote teamwork and ensure seamless integration of programs across all age groups.
Contribute to a positive and collaborative team environment that fosters mutual support and shared success.
Event Coordination
Plan and supervise seasonal events, special programming workshops, and outings, including summer activities.
Manage logistics, such as schedules, supplies, transportation and communications, to ensure successful execution of events and activities.
Behavior Management
Implement positive behavior management strategies to foster a respectful, inclusive, and supportive environment for all participants.
Program Evaluation & Reporting
Maintain program records, track attendance, monitor developmental milestones, collect and analyze data to evaluate program outcomes to ensure continuous improvement.
Maintain detailed documentation on children's progress and participation.
Prepare reports and updates for funders, stakeholders, and the Programs Director as required.
Administrative Tasks
Maintain accurate records of program attendance, participant feedback, related metrics, purchases, including receipts and purchase orders, and provide these to the Programs Director for review and approval.
Assist in preparing grant applications and proposals to support program funding.
Compliance, Policy Promotion, and EDI Practices
Ensure all organizational policies and procedures are actively promoted, implemented, and respected within all aspects of program delivery and staff interactions.
Uphold and model the organization's commitment to Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion (EDI) by fostering a welcoming, inclusive, and equitable environment for participants, families, staff, and community partners.
Provide ongoing guidance and support to staff and volunteers to ensure compliance with workplace safety, confidentiality, and ethical standards.
Actively contribute to creating and maintaining a culture that values diverse perspectives and promotes inclusive practices in all operations and decision-making processes.
Skills
Strong knowledge of early childhood development (0-5 years) and curriculum design.
Proven ability to lead engaging programs that support children's physical, cognitive, emotional, and social growth.
Excellent organizational and time-management abilities to balance multiple priorities.
Excellent interpersonal skills to engage with youth, families, staff and community partners.
Excellent communication skills in both French and English.
Leadership and team management skills to supervise and support staff effectively.
Ability to foster collaboration and promote teamwork across departments.
Problem-solving and adaptability to address challenges creatively.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office and the ability to learn new systems and software.
Understanding of behavior management techniques to foster a positive learning environment.
Qualifications
Education:
DEC in Early Childhood Education, Special Education, Elementary Education, or a related field.
Experience:
At least 3 years of experience in program coordination or leadership roles working with children aged 0-12.
Other Requirements:
Certification in First Aid and CPR (or willingness to obtain).
Ability to pass a criminal background check.
