The Early Years Community Development Centre (EYCDC) library clerk supports a specialized ECE curriculum library located in the Nova Scotia College of Early Childhood Education. The library clerk offers professionalism in customer service by welcoming library users, answering quick reference questions, assisting users in accessing basic library materials.
The EYCDC library clerk keeps the collection in good order by issuing and receiving books and library materials, reshelving books and materials, maintaining classified collections, performing circulation functions, performing routine clerical duties, administering membership program, and supporting the delivery of professional development. The EYCDC library clerk reports to Manager, Professional Development Services.
ACCOUNTABILITIES
Circulation & Customer Services
- Provide a welcoming and positive environment for patrons and other members of the NSCECE community
- Provide support during children's visits from child care centres and Pre-Primary programs
- Set up invitation displays and showcase materials on the weekly rotation basis
- Provide guidance and assistance to students and community members
- Provide day-to-day circulation and membership services
- Respond to information requests
- Develop and maintain reference library and curriculum materials
- Check materials into and out of the library
- Check returned materials for completeness and follow up with borrowers as necessary
- Clean and shelve materials properly; perform minor repairs
- Develop, design, and distribute publications promoting excellence in early years practice; and the activities of Early Years Professional Support Services team (articles, newsletters, brochures, blogs, and other social media postings)
- Maintain accurate records and files; process payments; and use GT SUM and Tiny Cat databases
- Communicate effectively with staff and community
Professional Development Registration
- Take and process professional develop registrations (includes processing payments, follow up calls to confirm registration, dealing with questions, tracking, and resolving registration issues, as necessary)
- Schedule and monitor online professional development registrations in Eventbrite and Kajabi
- Produce and mail out professional development certificates, handouts, etc.
- Check-in participants for face-to-face and virtual sessions as needed
Membership Services
- Process new memberships
- Send out renewal notices and reminders for borrowed materials
- Orient new members including NSCECE students
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
- High School Diploma
- Early Childhood Education or Library Technology education or experience
