Hands-on position which requires a solid understanding of operational and financial accounting principles. The Divisional Controller is responsible for multiple diverse Nation owned businesses and works closely with Executive Directors and business managers to reinforce business competencies and increase economic benefits for the community.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Works closely with managers to prepare budgets and projections, monitor actual performance versus budget and assist with developing business cases.
Approval of vendor invoices and other transactional accounting entries.
Responsible for accurate and timely maintenance of the general ledger, including preparation of adjusting entries, ensuring all items are accounted for in accordance with applicable accounting standards.
Ensure compliance with government, regulatory, and contractual requirements (e.g., GST filings, permitting and financing covenants).
Preparation of working papers and reconciliations to assist various external auditors in the completion of audit procedures.
Attend senior management meetings as required to speak to financial performance of assigned companies.
Other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS:
Desired Education and Experience:
o Designated accountant: CPA, CA, CMA or CGA, with three to seven (3-7) years of industry experience post designation.
o Experience working with First Nations or Metis communities is an asset.
o Experience with full cycle accounting software and proficiency in Microsoft Excel.
