Position Summary


Reporting to the CFO, the Divisional Controller of SJC Communications Division is accountable for directing and managing the day-to-day functions of the finance area related to all businesses in the Communications Division and the central shared services finance team. The Divisional Controller is directly responsible for operational financial reporting of three businesses within the division - Content, Media, and Assembly. This role also oversees the shared service finance staff in the areas of Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable and Accounting.

Key Responsibilities

Finance Team Leadership



Directs and manages day-to-day functions of the operational finance area, providing leadership and guidance to accounting staff Oversees monthly close, divisional audit requirements and other activities in the accounting cycle Complete monthly forecasts and annual budgets with inputs from leadership team and various departments Meets constant demands for financial and management information needs within the business working closely with accounting staff and operating business units to meet those requirements Complete ad hoc analysis and provide financial support for business and strategic initiatives Directly manages a finance team of twelve employees including 4 direct reports

Management Reporting and Forecasts



Manage and review the preparation of monthly operational financial statements ensuring accuracy and timely reporting of financial results of the Communications Division encompassing three businesses Analysis and review of revenues and costs across multiple business units, revenue and cost centres Improve financial reporting systems and accounting procedures to streamline processes and workflows Provide ongoing support to business operations from finance Maintains analysis such as WIP and monthly billings to ensure accuracy in financial results

Financial Controls and Compliance



Ensure accounting system controls are in place by reviewing bank reconciliations, accounts payable, accounts receivable, G/L accounts and other financial reports. Become expert user and oversee the ERP financial system (Netsuite) and financial reporting tools (Prophix) Review and sign off on all commodity tax returns (HST/GST, QST, Sales Tax) Provides support as required for audits and other compliance reporting by corporate finance Annual grant applications for government funding including CPF (Canadian Periodical Fund) Other government reporting including Blue Box Compliance and surveys by Statistics Canada as they pertain to the Communications Division

Qualifications and Requirements



Completed CPA Designation Minimum of 10 years of financial experience, including 5+ years in a leadership role managing a finance team Media, technology and advertising industry experience is preferred Experience in analytical, business modelling, budgeting / forecasting, accounting and decision-making skills (GAAP, Finance, ERP, MS Excel) Fast-paced and results oriented in an entrepreneurial environment Experience with ERP (Netsuite) and FP&A tools (Prophix) preferred Willingness to roll up sleeves and be hands-on to achieve results Strong communication skills - written (PowerPoint decks, memos, etc.) and verbal (presentations, etc.) Strong interpersonal skills with working with many different departments Ability to prioritize and manage multiple deadlines
