The Vancouver Secondary School Athletic Association (VSSAA) and the Vancouver Elementary Physical Activity Association (VEPAA) represents the Secondary and Elementary schools in Vancouver. These associations offer students inter-school competition in a diverse range of sports for student-athletes in grades four through twelve. The VSSAA is part of the Vancouver Sea to Sky zone which makes up one of nine regional zones in the BC School Sports (BCSS) provincial governance model. The VSSAA currently includes 18 secondary schools and places a high value on student-athlete development, fair play, safety for athletes and coaches, and healthy competition.
In this role, you will:
Work in collaboration with school personnel/community partners to plan, organize and manage various athletic events
Provide administrative and organizational direction and support for district committees, teachers and administrators with event planning, budget planning, and the establishment of record keeping procedures
Develop procedures manuals for the organization of events
Represent the Board on a variety of committees to foster collaboration between the district and various sport/athletic groups to generate opportunities for VSB schools
Participate and provide recommendation in the decision-making process involved in the design and delivery of student events and programs in conjunction with district administrators, teachers, volunteers, and event/program organizers
Prepare and submit applications for grant funding from other organizations to supplement funding for programs and district initiatives
Prepare, generate, and present reports on district athletic activities as required
Provide coaching and support to volunteers and staff members as needed
Supervise volunteers/students in various athletic events
Prepare a variety of charts, records and reports and conduct basic research on relevant topics
Liaise and communicate in person, over the telephone, and through written correspondence, with necessary schools, volunteers, event contacts, media, related organizations, and vendors
Arrange appropriate facility bookings, equipment, invitations, supplies, printing, photography, public relations services and other such matters as required by the varying nature of events
Develop, implement, and maintain proper record systems for student events in order to record and control expenses in accordance with budgets and other requirements
Answer event inquiries from schools, teachers, administrators, and the community
Provide technical and resource support to the District, Division and to schools
Perform clerical duties when required
Perform other duties within the band as assigned
Qualifications:
Completion of grade 12 plus a degree in Human Kinetics or Business Administration
5 years of experience in coordinating various athletic events
Volunteer management training and/or experience required
Excellent skills in the following: office administration, time management, organization, attention to detail, customer service, interpersonal skills, communication, workshop facilitation and coaching/mentorship required
Thorough knowledge and experience using email systems and Microsoft Office programs.
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with school staff, students, various stakeholders, volunteers and community partners. Ability to work independently as well as part of a multi-disciplinary team
Experience working in a community agency environment and knowledge of educational settings in BC would be an asset
Valid Canadian Interscholastic Athletic Administrators Association (CIAAA) certificate an asset
Must be able to pass the written assessment
Must have a valid driver\xe2\x80\x99s license, access to a vehicle and be willing to travel throughout the district
