We take pride in holding ourselves to the highest standard of integrity and excellence in all that we do.We are looking for a self-motivated Distribution Engineer to join us in the exciting work we do at ATCO Electricity.Reporting to the Senior Engineer, Distribution Engineering, this position is responsible for completing overhead and underground designs. This area of responsibility will require technical skills in civil structure design and electrical design.Responsibilities:

  • Project estimation includes determining routing and estimating for complex projects, participating in field checks, determining the most efficient route of powerline, applying pricing, schedules, and commercial terms for customer proposals.
  • Project design of overhead and underground distribution facilities including application of company standard structures, calculation of structure loading and determining pole class and guy length requirements, clearance calculations of overhead facilities.
  • Sizing of electrical equipment, wire, and cable, and voltage drop calculations.
  • Determining right of way requirements for distribution facilities, material requirements.
  • Ensures tariffs and T&Cs are properly applied.
  • Manages external notifications and consents and assists with post-completion technical, financial reviews where necessary, and authentication of own and other designer\'s projects.
  • Authentication of own and other design team\'s work.
  • Project Management from initiation until the project is release to construction. Update project management tool in a timely fashion.
  • Build schedules for projects and identify changes to projects and associated risks with those changes. Mitigate risks where possible.
  • Managing and owning the relationship with the customer from the time the project is raised, until it is released to construction.
  • Identify ways to meet and exceed customer experience expectations, improve service delivery and reduce costs.
  • Provide input during development of technical engineering standards.
  • Work with different groups within ATCO and collaborate on DCM projects as required.
  • Special projects as required.
  • Performs other duties as required.
Qualifications:
  • Undergraduate degree in Engineering (Electrical, Civil, or equivalent) from an accredited University.
  • Professional Engineer or Professional Licensee designation. Licensure with APEGA is required.
  • A minimum of 3-5 years of related experience. Candidates with less experience may be considered.
  • Strong technical skills in civil structure and electrical design.
  • Experience with PLS-CADD or other power line modelling software is an asset.
  • Excellent interpersonal and organizational skills in addition to strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • A valid Alberta driver\'s license (Class 5).
