We are looking for self-motivated Distribution Engineer to join us in the exciting work we do in ATCO Electricity.

Reporting to the Supervising Engineer, Large Projects & Programs, this position is responsible for completing overhead and underground designs to upgrade lines and connect customers to ATCO\'s distribution network. This area of responsibility will require technical skills in civil structure design and electrical design.

Responsibilities:

  • Project design of overhead and underground distribution facilities including application of company standard structures, calculation of structure loading and determining pole class and guy length requirements, clearance calculations of overhead facilities.
  • Sizing of electrical equipment, wire, and cable, and voltage drop calculations.
  • Determining right of way requirements for distribution facilities, material requirements.
  • Providing support to all groups in the organization on the roles and responsibilities of the Large Distribution project process.
  • Supporting the design team\'s committed timelines and managing engineering risks
  • Develop scope documents and estimates for complex projects with the Large Distribution Project Team
  • Authenticating distribution design drawings and support the application of non-standard designs.
  • Project estimating for complex projects, participating in field checks, work with team to determining most efficient route of powerline.
  • Identifying ways to meet and exceed customer experience expectations, improve service delivery, and reduce costs.
Qualifications:
  • Undergraduate degree in Engineering (Electrical, Civil or equivalent) from an accredited University.
  • Professional Engineer or Professional Licensee designation. Licensure with APEGA is required.
  • A minimum of five 2-5 years of related experience.
  • Experience with PLS-CADD or other power line modelling software is an asset.
  • Excellent time management, problem solving, decision making, organization and planning skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal and organization skills in addition to strong written and verbal communication skills
  • A valid Alberta driver\'s license (Class 5).
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite - Word, Excel PowerPoint, SharePoint, and Outlook.
