About the team



The Saskatchewan Teachers' Federation Disability Services team provides day-to-day administration for the Teachers' Long Term Disability Plan and rehabilitation back-to-work services to teachers.

What you'll do



The Disability Intake Coordinator serves as the first point of contact for members who have exhausted their accumulated sick leave (ASL) and are seeking to apply for the Teachers' Long-Term Disability plan (LTD). This role is essential in creating a positive and supportive experience for members. The Disability Intake Coordinator is responsible for conducting initial intake interviews, guiding members through the application process, outlining required documentation, collecting and reviewing relevant documentation, and assessing individual needs. Through these efforts, this position ensures an efficient, fair, and compassionate intake process that enhances member outcomes and experiences.


Responsibilities include:

Serve as the initial point of contact via phone, email or in-person when members run out of ASL. Provide clear and accurate information to plan members regarding the plan provisions and eligibility criteria, respond to inquiries, and provide technical explanations as needed. Provide exceptional customer service to plan members or their agents and senior administrative staff by addressing their inquiries, concerns, and requests in a timely, empathetic, and professional manner. Conduct thorough interviews via phone to understand the members' situation and disability needs. Maintain a high level of confidentiality and sensitivity to members' privacy. Determine eligibility to apply for the LTD plan while explaining the intake process to the member. Provide appropriate resources or information when members do not qualify for LTD benefits. Mail or email LTD application package and other necessary forms to members and provide support and guidance on completion of the forms. Conduct in-depth review of member's statement of claimant, employer's statement, and physician reports to ensure accuracy and completeness and notify stakeholders of any incomplete areas. Set regular follow-up and communication points to ensure documents are received in a timely manner to achieve departmental service standards. Enter member information into the case management system with a high degree of accuracy and detail. Determine eligibility for adjudication and claim commencement date. Once application is complete, create new claim and assign to the disability case manager for adjudication.

What you'll bring



A one-year certificate or diploma from a recognized business college, plus 1-2 years of benefits administration experience, preferably in disability claims administration. Preference will be given to candidates who are enrolled in or have completed a Group Benefits Associate (GBA) designation. An equivalent combination of education and experience will also be considered Demonstrated initiative in undertaking assignments and completing work within strict timelines is a definite requirement. Established analytical and mathematical skills. Demonstrated word processing, Excel and computer skills. Proven effective client service, interpersonal and public relations skills. Mature judgement, particularly related to recognizing the consequences of providing inaccurate or incomplete information. Effective communication skills, including the ability to explain complex information clearly and empathetically. Demonstrated information accuracy, completeness and confidentiality in work. A good working knowledge of office procedures and practices. Organizational and time-management skills that reflect ability to perform and prioritize multiple tasks seamlessly with excellent attention to detail.
