Disability Employment Counsellor

, where you'll play a crucial role in guiding participants through personalized assessments, tailored action plans, and essential job readiness skills. Reporting to the Program Manager, our selected candidate will be conducting intake assessments to determine clients' needs and facilitate one-on-one employment counselling using career assessment tools. You'll evaluate each participant's skills, interests, and career goals, identifying barriers and making referrals to additional support services as needed. You will develop and refine personalized action plans, prepare participants for job marketing (including resumes and interview prep), and assist with job search strategies. Additionally, you'll identify job leads, support clients in accessing the hidden job market, and collaborate with employers to create employment opportunities.

Qualifications

The ideal candidate for this position should hold a post-secondary certificate, degree, or diploma in

Client Services for Persons with Disabilities

, or a comparable blend of education and relevant experience. Preference will be given to those with designations such as

Certified Career Development Practitioner (CCDP)

or

Registered Rehabilitation Professional (RRP)

. A minimum of two years of experience supporting individuals with disabilities in employment settings, conducting

Disability-Related Needs Assessments (DRENAs),

and interpreting specialized assessments is essential. Experience working with diverse cultural backgrounds and identifying assistive technology solutions is also required. A valid BC driver's license and access to a reliable vehicle is necessary.


Additionally, the candidate should possess strong administrative and technical skills, including proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, along with excellent verbal and written communication abilities. They must be adept at meeting deadlines and thriving under pressure, while demonstrating strong interpersonal skills for effective collaboration with clients, colleagues, and partners. Knowledge of career assessment tools and employment counseling techniques, as well as an understanding of the challenges faced by individuals with disabilities in the job market, is crucial. Furthermore, the candidate must be capable of developing and implementing tailored action plans to address individual client needs.


This role requires the incumbent to undergo a Police Information Check (PIC), and a Vulnerable Sector Check by the Ministry of Justice.
