The Director, Student Engagement & Wellness is accountable for providing strategic leadership towards meeting the College\xe2\x80\x99s strategic vision and directions college-wide and as they relate to the student engagement, health and wellness for the duration of their Selkirk College learning journey. Using a strong foundation of Student Development theories and practice, the Director operationalizes the College\xe2\x80\x99s Student Success plans with their team by leading student engagement and wellness and student experience initiatives. This position also develops and monitors departmental budgets, operational plans and policies, takes the lead in non-academic misconduct, and guides the overall operation of the department. The Director is responsible for key College Student support services including counselling/advising, learning skills, invigilation, accessibility services, recreation, student life, orientation (get connected), and co-op & employment services. The Director, with creativity and future focus, leads in Selkirk College\xe2\x80\x99s commitments of diversity and inclusion, environmental sustainability, health and wellness, innovation and reconciliation to create an excellent experience for all students attending and learning at Selkirk College.

The Director provides leadership through a proactive, well-researched, consultative and collaborative process with the faculty and staff of the Department, and other administrators.
The Director is responsible for developing and maintaining departmental policy, developing service standards in accordance with our exceptional service philosophy and ensuring that our external accreditation requirements are met (For example, Co-op).
The Director is responsible for the allocation and budgeting of the Student Service Fee to ensure it meets the mandate and strategy of the fee in supporting students.
The Director is responsible for the management of human resources and recruitment, including onboarding within their area of responsibilities as per College policies and procedures.
The Director fosters a collaborative approach to promote an organizational environment that encourages personal productivity, job satisfaction and the professional growth of employees to create the desired student experience
The Director develops and maintains appropriate relationships with regional community groups and other government organizations for the purpose of the College and the relevance of our services and supports for students.
The Director liaises with various ministries, agencies and groups.
The Director represents the College at local, provincial and national professional organizations and associations.
The Director provides leadership to annual departmental planning processes to share institutional context and strategic direction and priorities, bring creative approaches that continue to nurture innovative and effective approaches to our work.
The Director performs other duties as assigned.
Skills, Knowledge and Abilities
Demonstrated knowledge of best practice and frameworks related to student development, student engagement, physical & mental health, and holistic student support.
Strong computer skills with experience working in a Student Information System.
Demonstrated interpersonal, team, and community-building skills
Ability to lead, motivate, and manage staff
Effective conflict resolution, negotiation, and problem-solving skills
Proven ability to exercise judgment, tact, and diplomacy
Demonstrated ability to develop, interpret and apply College, government, agency and department policies, procedures and guidelines

Ability to communicate and work effectively and collaboratively with students, administrators, staff, faculty, Ministry representatives, other post-secondary institutions, external agencies, and the general public

Education and Experience
Master\xe2\x80\x99s degree in any field, a combination of significant experience and education may be considered
8-10 years of experience managing staff and leading operational responsibilities in student engagement, student development, or student service area of post-secondary education.
Experience leading a high functioning multi-faceted team that significantly impacts Institutional goals and KPIs
Familiarization with the directions of the BC, national and international post-secondary environments
Continuous Improvement and operational effectiveness experience an asset
Experience with the theory and practice of Student Development, andragogy and/or heutagogy
Experience and knowledge of privacy legislation in British Columbia
