Dream is looking for a Director, Insurance & Risk

Dream\xe2\x80\x99s Risk & Insurance team is currently looking for a Director, Insurance & Risk to support the operation of Dream\xe2\x80\x99s portfolio Property & Casualty insurance programs from Claims to Underwriting and everything in between.

What will you do?

Below are some of the primary responsibilities you will be taking on in this role. There will be more, but we can discuss those in person.

  • Manage Dream\xe2\x80\x99s North American corporate, operational and construction insurance programs on a day-to-day basis, maintain insurance policy documents and perform policy coverage analyses to fill gaps and ensure accuracy and comprehensiveness.
  • In partnership with Risk Team, procure new coverage and renew Dream\xe2\x80\x99s North American insurance programs including participation in strategic review of risk management program and development of methods which eliminate, mitigate, transfer, reduce and/or retain risk.
  • Review, draft, approve and improve insurance provisions within leases, credit agreements, and contractor and consultant contracts.
  • Develop and maintain accurate and updated underwriting data for distribution to brokerage and insurer partners to facilitate budgeting and coverage placement.
  • Identify loss exposures, recommend solutions, and qualify and action recommendations of insurer risk improvement surveys through development and implementation of procedures or physical site modifications that reduce the hazard risk exposure to the assets.
  • Develop and deliver training sessions with Property Management and Building Operations teams focusing on incident response and loss prevention.
  • Participate in claims management function including timely reporting of claims to Dream\xe2\x80\x99s insurers, maintaining claim files, completing loss trending and analysis, and working with colleagues and Dream\xe2\x80\x99s control adjuster to achieve maximum equitable claims settlement and expedited resolution.
  • Assist with due diligence and underwriting of acquisitions.
  • Maintain relationships with external third parties such as underwriters, broker partners, claims adjusters, insurance consultants, restoration contractors and lenders.
  • Review and process insurance invoices and maintain invoice tracking system.
What type of experience and skills do you have?

  • At least 6-8 years\xe2\x80\x99 insurance experience ideally in real estate or construction risk management, property or construction insurance underwriting, or broking within a real estate or construction practice.
  • Canadian Risk Management (CRM) or Chartered Insurance Professional (CIP) designation.
  • Undergraduate degree or college diploma; focus in business, accounting, engineering or finance considered an asset.
  • Strong time management and multitasking skills with the ability to thoughtfully plan and manage multiple projects simultaneously from start to finish under minimal supervision.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills with close attention to detail
  • Computer skills: extensive knowledge of Microsoft Word & Excel required.
  • Team player with a proven ability to build relationships at all levels of an organization, work collaboratively, and drive for results.
  • Self-motivated with high level of accountability and able to meet deadlines under pressure, respond timely, and anticipate needs.
  • Eager to identify, evaluate and develop new ideas and support with results, setting clear objectives and delivering on commitments.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills; comfortable with delivering complicated information simply.
