The Restorative Initiatives Unit is a small and dynamic team responsible for working collaboratively towards the overall implementation, management, administration and ongoing effectiveness of restorative initiatives in Nova Scotia. It coordinates and ensures the successful delivery of the Nova Scotia Restorative Justice Program and supports the adoption of a restorative approach in various contexts, across the Department of Justice.

About Our Opportunity

As the Interim Director (18 month Term) you will be tasked and accountable for the overall management, administration and ongoing effectiveness of the Restorative Justice Program for Nova Scotia.

You will be asked to analyze, assess and recommend the strategic direction of Restorative Justice and to work closely with community justice agencies to understand the current context within which they conduct their work. Within the Restorative Justice Unit, you will lead a team to achieve expected outcomes. There will be a direct focus on building and leveraging relationships with key partners through horizontal collaboration, awareness and coordination with those involved with Restorative work in Nova Scotia, including Restorative Justice Agencies of Nova Scotia, many government departments, and other levels of government.

Primary Accountabilities

  • Maintain and lead the evolution of Restorative Justice.
  • Advance strategy objectives by proactively collaborating and coordinating with all public, private and not-for-profit stakeholders.
  • Bring together diverse stakeholders using Restorative Approaches to discuss successes and best practices;
  • Recommend Restorative Justice policy on a justice and/or government-wide scale.
  • Implement and chair, as necessary, appropriate collaborative forums.
  • Ensure the effective management of human and financial resources.
About You

As the successful applicant you will have a Bachelor\'s Degree plus several years of progressively more responsible experience in a related field. An acceptable equivalent combination of training or experience may be considered.

The previous experience you have in the design, development, and delivery of programs and being able to think conceptually and see the big picture is required. Also needed is your ability to foresee problems, be sensitive to multiple conflicting perspectives, and present workable solutions.

Your proven track record in networking, establishing partnerships, and your innovative mindset as a leader is needed. Also required is your previous experience working with multiple stakeholders, including being able to build strong and lasting connections.

Having the ability to articulate points clearly and build relationships in order to collaborate and compromise when needed will contribute to your success in this role. In addition, your ability to use tact and diplomacy to communicate effectively with any individual regardless of their level will be important.

Leadership competencies required at this level of work are: Analytical Thinking, Strategic Orientation, Innovativeness, Adaptability and Flexibility, Initiative, Effective Interactive Communication, Partnering and Relationship Building, and Intercultural and Diversity Proficiency.

We will assess the above qualifications and competencies using one or more of the following tools: written examination, standardized tests, oral presentations, interview(s), and reference checks.

Pay Grade: EC 13

Salary Range: $3,918.14 - $4,897.66 Bi-Weekly
