The Town of New Tecumseth is looking for a Director, Public Works to join our rapidly growing team.

Responsible for the overall leadership, management, and direction of the Public Works Department. Oversee the operation and maintenance of the Town's infrastructure including the water system, wastewater system, roads, sidewalks, streetlights, stormwater management systems, forestry, parks, fleet, bridges/culverts, contract maintenance, and support services.


How you contribute to our organization:




Participates in the development of corporate strategies, policies, and directions through deliberations with Senior Management. Leads the development of annual department business plans, operational goals, and service standards for all Branches/Business Units to align with the Corporation's objectives for customer service, fiscal responsibility, and leadership excellence. Proposes new strategies, long-term initiatives, future requirements, and administrative / operational changes for the branches and business units. Leads the process of long-term operational and capital budgets for the department. In collaboration with department Managers and Supervisors, directs and coordinates annual operating and capital budgets. Approves budget allocations and expenditures as required. Prepares-or directs the preparation of- reports and recommendations for Council on departmental activities, programs, and projects. Attends Council and Committee of the Whole meetings providing information, recommendations and advice as required. Health and Safety Responsibilities; Complies with Director responsibilities as outlined in Corporate Health and Safety Policy. Ensures accountability and compliance with OHSA and the Town's Health and Safety policies for all managers, supervisors, and employees Co-ordinates Environmental Assessments for Public Works Department projects.




What you bring to the team:




Formal education preferred; equivalent experience in a similar role will be considered. Civil Engineering University degree or Civil Engineering Technology Diploma with over 10 years of related experience is preferred. Current holder of Professional Engineers Designation (P.Eng) or registered as Civil Engineering Technologist (CET) with OCETT is preferred. 7-10 years of experience in municipal public works, engineering, or related roles with progressively increasing responsibilities. Minimum of 3 years management or supervisory experience. Considerable experience in the management, public consultation processes, and in the development and administration of capital and operating budgets. Thorough knowledge of a Public Works department, with the ability to interpret policies and regulations under the Municipal Act, Planning Act, Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act (AODA), Municipal Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act (MFIPPA), Occupational Health and Safety Act, Employment Standards Act, Highway Traffic Act, Clean Water Act, Safe Drinking Act, Ontario Water Resources Act, Environmental Protection Act, Federal Fisheries Act, Conservation Authorities Act, Drainage Act, Environmental Compliance approvals, Rail Safety Act and other applicable legislation and regulations. Extensive knowledge and experience in managing standards and processes related to public works operations, with the ability to interpret relevant policies and legislation. Proven ability to manage both small- and large-scale projects effectively.






Salary:

$141,498.18 to $176,868.06, plus employer paid benefits and OMERS pension plan

Hours:

35 hours per week, Monday - Friday, 8:30 am - 4:30 pm

Location:

Town Hall, 24 Tupper Street West, Alliston
