Summary

At STEMCELL Technologies, Canada\'s Largest Biotech company, we are transforming our procurement department and building out a proactive and strategic Procurement function.

Reporting to the Senior Vice President Procurement, the Director, Procurement Business Partnerships is accountable for creating and aligning the strategic vision for the Business Partners and Purchasing teams. This role provides overall managerial oversight in developing and managing internal Business Partner relationships across STEMCELL. Furthermore, leveraging the Executive Procurement Business Partners Council, the Director is responsible to enable the alignment of STEMCELL\xe2\x80\x99s business objectives both within Procurement and with its internal Stakeholders.

In this role you will oversee the Procurement Business Partners who will work closely with their assigned business group by providing strategic input and practical day-to-day advice and support on matters related to Procurement processes, initiatives, and projects. The role will be accountable to support the continual improvement of STEMCELL\xe2\x80\x99s Procurement Operating Model (functional and technology enablement) and will ensure all global entities are provided with the training, systems, processes, and policies necessary to meet their local Procurement organizational and departmental needs.

Duties and Responsibilities
  • Dual ambassador, representing the voice of its Stakeholders within Procurement, while being Procurement\xe2\x80\x99s voice at the Stakeholder\xe2\x80\x99s table
  • Responsible for establishing and leading the achievement of annual goals and strategic planning for areas of responsibility, with a 2-3 year time horizon
  • Create and establish the Procurement Business Partner model at STEMCELL in partnership with the Senior Vice President Procurement, once established, maintain and continuously improve the model
  • Create and align a strategic vision for the Procurement Business Partners and Purchasing teams that spans over a period of 2-3 years and includes clear milestones and deliverables to be delivered within each Fiscal Year
  • Lead the creation and enablement of a Procurement Business Partners Council composed of key STEMCELL Executives that will be focused on aligning & sequencing the Procurement Operating Model functional and technology priorities in lock-step with STEMCELL\xe2\x80\x99s Business needs
  • Navigate effectively at strategic, operational, and tactical levels in order to enable the successful execution of the overall Procurement mandate
  • Effectively prioritizes work assignments and allocates resources while managing stakeholder expectations, establishing and adjusting priorities based on the department\xe2\x80\x99s objectives and the enterprise\xe2\x80\x99s strategic plan
  • Works together within Procurement and with its Stakeholder groups to develop and implement effective processes and practices for the Procurement Business Partner organization that will support the strategic growth of the business, while evaluating and approving significant improvements to existing methods and processes based on new and/or changes to policies
  • Leads problem-solving and evaluates, approves, and ensures execution of solutions for their area of responsibility. These solutions may require collaboration with other groups and in-depth analysis that requires conceptual thinking
  • Provides people leadership by:
    • managing a team professionals responsible for developing strategic sourcing recommendations that provide the basis for making critical business decisions;
    • coaching/mentoring/motivating a team; managing professional development, compensation, succession planning, performance management, budgeting, etc.; managing the resourcing, work assignment and evaluation of a team of SCM professionals to ensure the quality, cost effectiveness, and timeliness of work associated with their assigned responsibilities; and
    • fostering an environment in which continuous improvement of category management systems, tools, processes and standards takes place, often in the role of a champion of change in mindsets and behaviors.
Knowledge and Qualifications
  • Bachelor\'s degree with 15+ years of relevant experience
  • SME in several aspects of the procurement cycle, including, sales, operations, contract negotiations, supply chain, manufacturing, finance, receiving, or requester
  • Requires extensive leadership experience to lead teams in one department with ability to develop, coach, and mentor a team of individual contributors and people leaders
  • Has expert-level knowledge and skills within a specific technical area or professional discipline, with a basic understanding of related areas
  • Has knowledge of the business fundamentals of the industry environment within which STEMCELL operates
  • Has experience managing organization-wide programs and projects and sets/supports the strategic direction which shapes team members goals
  • Has end to end experience in processes such as category management, strategic sourcing, source to pay / procure to pay, supplier relationship management, and supplier contract management. Life-sciences scientific experience is a differentiating advantage
  • Forward thinking with ability to strategically plan for future growth and build an organizational structure that supports business needs
  • Experience with change management
  • Proven ability to think critically, troubleshoot and problem-solve
