Job Description

We're growing and searching for a passionate, driven and energetic candidate for the position of Director, Privacy & Risk. This full-time position will be located at our Head Office in Guelph, ON.

The Director, Privacy & Risk is responsible for the privacy management program and oversight of third-party risk management across the Skyline Group of Companies ("Skyline"). This role is the primary advisor on compliance with applicable privacy and data-protection laws and related risks and issues. In collaboration with the Legal Department and the Information Technology Department (IT), this role is responsible for safeguarding data of investors, employees, tenants and business partners within Skyline. The Director, Privacy & Risk, in collaboration with IT, works with business leaders within Skyline and the Legal Department to review, update, develop, monitor and maintain industry standard privacy practices, addressing how entities within Skyline manage, organize, share, protect and provide access to personal information. The Director, Privacy & Risk, is also responsible for providing oversight of risk management respecting Skyline's third-party vendors.
What you will be doing:

  • In collaboration with the Executive Committee and IT, maintain a comprehensive industry standard privacy management program that is business focused and defines, implements, reviews and updates policies and processes, including privacy impact assessments, that manage risk and ensures the confidentiality of protected information across all media types, including, where required, building and reviewing stakeholder specific sub-programs.
  • Ensure all privacy forms, policies, standards, and procedures are compliant with applicable laws and are regularly audited and updated to remain compliant and address all privacy concerns, requirements, and responsibilities.
  • Develop and maintain a comprehensive Artificial Intelligence (AI) governance framework that is business focused and consistent with the privacy management program, that sets out the core principles and controls designed to address the risks and requirements of appropriate uses of AI and Skyline, including, where required, building and reviewing stakeholder specific sub-AI frameworks.
  • Perform regular data auditing and privacy risk assessments and analysis and develop protocols for breach risk mitigation and remediation.
  • Perform privacy-focused assessments in collaboration with IT for system-level audits and technical control reviews.
  • Serve as the information privacy and AI resource across the Skyline Group of Companies and provide expertise, advice, and guidance to staff regarding the interpretation and requirements of applicable privacy, data governance, data security, CASL and AI legislation, in conjunction with the Vice President, IT as it relates to cybersecurity and AI, with the Vice President, IT, being responsible for all technical security issues and queries.

  • Post-secondary education in related field (e.g., Business Studies, Public Administration, Privacy/Records Management, or Law)
  • Certified Records Management (CRM) designation and/or Privacy Certification (CIPP-C) an asset.
  • Demonstrated experience and/or strong working knowledge of risk management principles, including the identification, assessment, and mitigation of organizational risks.
  • Knowledge of privacy, data governance and security and AI legislation, regulations and guidelines published in Europe and the United States of America.
  • 5-7 years relevant work experience.
