Are you a senior leader who is passionate about workplace health and safety and ready to play a critical role in helping prevent occupational injury, illness, and death while supporting injured workers?

The role of Director, Prevention Programs and Services, is an opportunity for a highly focused and experienced leader to help shape workplace health and safety culture across British Columbia.

Reporting to the Head of Prevention Services, the Director of Prevention Programs and Services plays a key role on our senior leadership team. They engage in strategic planning, decision-making, and the implementation of key initiatives to reduce the risk of workplace injuries, diseases, and fatalities in B.C.

The director is accountable for developing and implementing effective strategies aligned with the division\xe2\x80\x99s goals. This will include expanding services for worker engagement, spearheading safety culture and leadership initiatives, and ensuring quality assurance of credentialing services, such as the certificate of recognition program.

How you\'ll make a difference: You\'ll cultivate strategic partnerships with stakeholders across B.C. to help ensure B.C. workers go home safely at the end of their workday.

Where you\xe2\x80\x99ll work

At WorkSafeBC, we offer a hybrid work model that combines the convenience of working remotely with the dynamism of working in one of our offices, based on the operational needs of the position.

In this role, you\xe2\x80\x99ll work from your home in B.C., your local WorkSafeBC office and other offices across B.C., as required. Preferred locations are Richmond, Kelowna, and Victoria.

What you\'ll do

  • Develop strategies and initiatives focusing on industry outreach and support, enhancing safety associations, and cultivating strategic partnerships with industry, labour, and community groups.
  • Represent WorkSafeBC and your division with committees, provincial associations, media, and special interest groups.
  • Build effective relationships with key stakeholders in provincial industry sectors for prevention initiatives.
  • Develop and lead strategic partnerships with stakeholders, including industry, labour, employers, workers, and funded partners \xe2\x80\x94 Health and Safety Associations, Certifying Partners, and Injury Reduction Initiatives.
  • Guide and direct management teams in developing and implementing strategic, operational, and business plan initiatives, including strategy development, oversight, and monitoring.
  • Drive the development and implementation of new service offerings aligned with the prevention mandate, overseeing vision, structure, direction, and change management.
  • Manage the annual budget, overseeing resource allocation, monitoring financial reporting, and approving expenditures to meet operational needs.
  • Travel where required to represent WorkSafeBC and connect with stakeholders.

  • Understands the evolving occupational health and safety landscape, can identify industry trends, and innovatively deliver prevention services.
  • Possesses strong interpersonal and relationship-building skills.
  • Has experience fostering a positive safety culture.
  • Has experience in strategy management, combining priorities and metrics to measure results to make effective decisions.
  • Is an innovative problem-solver who can think outside the box, finding creative solutions to enhance workplace safety.
  • Brings experience in financial management, budget planning, and resource allocation. Is open to occasional business travel and is willing to undertake special projects or assignments.
Your background and experience
  • A bachelor\xe2\x80\x99s degree in occupational health and safety, behavioural science, public policy, training and education, or a related discipline.
  • A minimum of 10 years of related experience in progressive leadership roles.
  • Sound knowledge and understanding of occupational health and safety and experience leading compliance with regulatory requirements.

Salary: $163,512 - $198,667/annually
