Overview

Are you a senior leader who is passionate about improving psychological health and safety in British Columbia\xe2\x80\x99s workplaces?

The role of Director, Prevention Field Services, Psychological Health & Safety is an opportunity for a highly focused and experienced leader to play a critical role in shaping workplace psychological safety culture across the province.

Reporting to the Head of Prevention Services, you\xe2\x80\x99ll play a key role on our senior leadership team. You\xe2\x80\x99ll engage in strategic planning, decision-making, and the implementation of initiatives to reduce the risk of workplace injuries, diseases, and fatalities in B.C.

The Director is accountable for developing and implementing effective strategies aligned with the division\xe2\x80\x99s goal. This includes engaging employers, workers, and other stakeholders to reduce mental health risks and establish and maintain psychologically safe workplaces. You\xe2\x80\x99ll lead our education, consultation, and enforcement activities to promote sustainable compliance and effective management of workplace mental health risks. You\xe2\x80\x99ll apply your background and understanding of the challenges posed by workplace mental health with your motivation to bring solutions to this important health and safety issue. You\xe2\x80\x99ll lead the development of programs and resources and foster cooperative and collaborative relationships between employers and workers regarding workplace psychological safety.

How you\'ll make a difference: You\xe2\x80\x99ll oversee WorkSafeBC\xe2\x80\x99s psychological safety initiatives and drive our service delivery efforts to ensure B.C. workers go home safely at the end of their workday.

Where you\xe2\x80\x99ll work

At WorkSafeBC, we offer a hybrid work model that combines the convenience of working remotely with the dynamism of working in one of our offices, based on the operational needs of the position.

In this role, you\xe2\x80\x99ll work from your home in B.C., your local WorkSafeBC office and other offices across B.C. as required. Preferred locations are Richmond, Kelowna, and Victoria.

What you\'ll do

  • Develop strategies and initiatives and lead divisional efforts shaping education, consultation, and enforcement activities with particular emphasis on issues of workplace psychological safety.
  • Initiate industry outreach and cultivate strategic partnerships to promote mental health awareness and prevent psychological injury from occurring in B.C. workplaces.
  • Promote worker participation and engagement in the occupational health and safety process, focusing on workplace psychological safety.
  • Bring expertise and leadership to WorkSafeBC\xe2\x80\x99s enterprise-wide mental health strategy.
  • Drive the development and implementation of new service offerings aligned with the prevention services mandate, overseeing vision, structure, direction, and change management.
  • Guide and direct management teams in developing and implementing strategic, operational, and business plan initiatives, including strategy development, oversight, and monitoring.
  • Manage the annual budget, overseeing resource allocation, monitoring financial reporting, and approving expenditures to meet operational needs.
  • Travel where required to represent WorkSafeBC and connect with stakeholders.

  • Has experience in strategy development and execution, combining priorities and metrics to measure results to make effective decisions.
  • Is an innovative problem-solver who can think outside the box, finding creative solutions to enhance workplace health and safety.
  • Brings experience in financial management, budget planning, and resource allocation, specifically within a prevention services framework.
  • Is open to occasional business travel and welcomes special projects or assignments.
Your background and experience
  • A master\xe2\x80\x99s degree in science or public health focusing on occupational health and safety; OHS professional designation is preferred.
  • A minimum of 15 years of related experience in progressive leadership roles.
  • Solid knowledge of enforcement practices and a comprehensive understanding of the role of a health and safety regulator.
  • Substantial work experience in a regulatory and compliance environment, demonstrating a practical understanding of the components and attributes of psychologically safe workplaces.
  • Demonstrated expertise in identifying, evaluating, and controlling workplace mental health risks.
  • Proven track record in undertaking risk reduction activities and leading compliance initiatives to ensure alignment with occupational health and safety regulations and policies.
  • Substantial experience providing leadership to organizations in occupational health and safety matters with a focus on workplace psychological safety. Proficiency in change management and experience implementing substantial organizational changes.

Salary: $179,861 - $218,531/annually
