Job Description


The Postgraduate Medical Education (PGME) office manages over 50 Dalhousie University training programs with over 700 PGME trainees (residents/fellows) located at sites in Nova Scotia, New Brunswick and Prince Edward Island. Reporting jointly to the Associate Dean, PGME and the Executive Director, Operations, the Director, PGME is responsible for leading, developing, implementing and evaluating postgraduate activities and residency training programs in the Faculty of Medicine as well as the development and dissemination of innovate work in policy, curriculum, assessment and other aspects of postgraduate medical education.
Key Responsibilities

  • Ensure PGME\'s operational plan aligns with and supports the Faculty of Medicine\'s strategic plan; consult with external partners/stakeholders to ensure PGME operational plan aligns with and supports their strategic direction.
  • Work collaboratively with the Associate Dean, PGME, the Department of Health and Wellness health authorities, and Maritime Resident Doctors to verify resident allocations, and to initiate and facilitate discussions to address residency program issues. Conduct needs assessment and develop business plans and reports based on performing regular visits to teaching sites.
  • Oversee the admissions process of all residents and fellows for PGME. Advise Program Directors and Administrators, residents, and medical students on all matters related to residency or fellowship training including PGME and university policy, competency by design curriculum, program content, licensing, hospital accreditation, etc.
  • Support and oversee the accreditation of all Dalhousie University\'s residency programs by national accrediting bodies. Implement accreditation standards through effective integration of those standards into the operations of the PGME office.
  • Develop and maintain PGME annual budget; authorize all financial transactions. Monitor and reconcile monthly statements for all PGME accounts; investigate and resolve discrepancies as required. Prepare detailed financial reports and statements.
  • Manage four positions including recruitment, training and performance management. Provide leadership, advise and direct PGME staff through policies, processes, procedures to ensure high quality support services are provided for the PGME program.
Note

The successful applicant will be eligible for hybrid work (combination of in-person work on campus and remote work) as agreed by all parties based on operational requirements and university guidelines.
Required Qualifications
  • Master\'s degree in Business or Public Administration, or other related field, with at least five years of related administrative and managerial experience (or equivalent combination of training and experience).
  • Knowledge of medical education programs and/or academic health care environment.
  • Experience in management of budgets, financial analysis and reporting.
  • Supervisory experience.
  • Must possess excellent communication and interpersonal skills and be able to to work independently and use sound judgement for decision making.
  • Have knowledge of and experience working with online learning platforms.
Assets
  • Experience in a university or health care setting.
  • Supervisory experience in a unionized environment.
  • Project management training and demonstrated ability to manage projects.
