The Director, Operations will be based out of Moncton, New Brunswick (220 Harrisville Boulevard, E1H 3N5) and reporting to the Vice President of Operations, the Director of Operations is responsible in planning, coordination and supervision of the ongoing activities at the Irving Personal Care plant operations to achieve all targets, budgets, objectives and goals as it relates to Production and Maintenance. They are also the functional lead in areas that directly impact Business Improvement and Operational Excellence initiatives and will provide tactical direction and operational oversight to support these key initiatives. This is a permanent, full-time position. The primary language of work is English.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor\xe2\x80\x99s Degree
  • 10+ years, preferably in the manufacturing industry
  • Experience leading large cross functional teams
Key Responsibilities:

Safety
  • Promote a positive safety culture and ensure the safety of all employees through understanding/adherence to organizational safety standards and practices.
  • Communicate and instill a sense of urgency around Health and Safety including compliance, reports and immediately investigating Health and Safety issues.
  • Ensures processes are in place to achieve 100% compliance and maintains zero tolerance for non-compliance.
  • Continuous Improvement and Operational Excellence
  • Strategic Planning through OGSMI methodology
  • Support VP Operations, and other site leaders in determining and directing long range plans, objectives, and activities, and ensure that initiatives are aligned to support delivery of the site\xe2\x80\x99s vision, purpose and strategy.
  • Instill the 5 elements of the Irving Management System
  • Lead, contribute and support to continuous improvement initiatives related to plant KPI\xe2\x80\x99s and other areas as required.
  • Leveraging resources, innovations, and process improvements across the manufacturing group. Demonstrate this support through meetings, actions, and behaviors to influence employee buy in and lead by example.
  • Liaison with corporate CI and OpEx groups in formulating site specific CI deployment strategies.
Accountability
  • Accountable for productivity, cost, volume, waste, attendance, quality and OEE. Identify solutions to get back on track.
  • Encourage employee involvement in solutions.
  • Managing and Measuring Performance, clearly assign responsibility for tasks and decisions.
  • Sets clear objectives and measures
  • Uses coaching to enhance performance appropriately; recognizes and leverages high performers.
  • Holds regular development and career discussions and in partnership with employee, constructs development plans.

  • Mentor the direct reports so they become effective leaders/employees by maintaining a proactive management development process and reinforce these processes by motivating, encouraging, and training them through HR standard work system.
  • Supports Supervisors in the successful resolution of problems related to production (case attainment, schedule adherence and cost standards)
  • Drive team results through positive influence & leadership
Performance Management
  • Lead departmental leadership team direct reports by setting jobs expectations and manage against those expectations with intent to achieve Key Performance Indicators.
  • All plant functions and the strategic and tactical ownership of the plant strategy, ensuring the continuous improvement of the operational elements (Safety, Quality, Cost, OEE, People, Downtime, etc.) associated KPI\xe2\x80\x99s.
  • Anticipate/Identify training and development opportunities within the team, create plan to close gaps.
Facilitation
  • Through coaching, training, communicating, problem solving, leadership and recognition, develop a focus for others in creating and maintaining a good environment that includes proper interpretation and application of company policies as well as legal and regulatory compliance.
  • Assist with external auditors/visitors during planned and unplanned tours or audits.
