It encompases the faculties of Rehabilitation Medicine, School of Public Health, Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences, Nursing, Medicine & Dentistry, and Kinesiology, Sport, and Recreation.PositionReporting to the College General Manager, the Director, Office of Education leads the administration of services in the Office of Education and engages a team of professionals responsible for the functions, operations, and programs delivered. The Office of Education plays an important role in coordinating program portfolios, teaching resources, facilities, and student services across the College.Duties

  • Develops meaningful relationships with Faculty Leaders, Faculty Student Service teams (undergrad and graduate), Faculty General Managers, and being a key conduit with the Service Partners in the related field to ensure optimal delivery of services.
  • Designs, implements and manages efficient and effective operational systems and structures within the Office of Education that further the undergraduate and graduate student services vision, and (may) include: course scheduling and timetabling, academic integrity/discipline, student systems, WIL, experiential learning, and interdisciplinary programs. The position ensures the effective management of the above portfolios and the staff responsible for these areas.
  • With the CGM, builds the strategic direction and defines operational plans in alignment with the strategic direction. Implements action plans based on these objectives by assigning the right resources to achieve concrete results and respond to organizational priorities, in consultation with the College Dean and Associate Dean(s).
  • Engages in continuous process improvement to enhance effectiveness and efficiency in the administration of the portfolios and design and implement solutions to operational challenges. Seek feedback on operations, services and processes from across the University.
  • Operates with autonomy based upon solid understanding of the vision, mission, values, and strategic goals of the College and the University, and a comprehensive knowledge of policies, processes, procedures, organizational design, and the culture of the College, Faculties, and the institution.
  • Establishes clear performance expectations for the area; measures performance regularly and recognizes achievement. Holds self and area accountable for meeting performance objectives. Intervenes when area performance is waning. Motivates and/or removes barriers to achievement.
  • Demonstrates responsible use of resources (physical, human and financial). Identify, lobby and secure resources as required; reallocates resources as necessary.
  • Creates an environment that encourages innovation and enables change while proactively addressing issues and resistance.
  • Demonstrates persuasive, engaging, clear and credible communication to gain support and commitment in varied situations from a wide variety of audiences.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor\xe2\x80\x99s Degree; Masters Preferred.
  • Minimum of 5 years experience in a leadership role in post secondary setting with specific experience in academic program administration and student academic progression.
  • Strong Administrative and organizational skills, including strategic planning and operations management.
  • Excellent communication (written and verbal), presentation, and interpersonal communication skills, including the ability to communicate with and support students, employers, and colleagues.
  • Excellent relationship management skills with demonstrated experience in conflict resolution and/or mediation in highly charged situations.
  • Proven ability to work with a diverse stakeholders at all organizational levels to provide advice and guidance on administrative and strategic issues.
  • Ability to maintain flexibility and adaptability within a demanding and ever-changing work environment including the ability to work with individuals with diverse backgrounds and experiences.
  • Highly developed level of political acumen with proven ability to successfully collaborate with key campus constituencies including students, faculty, staff and community partners.
  • Proven ability to be innovative, creative and passionate in developing and advocating for new policies, programs, administrative structures and/or modifying existing policies and practices.
  • Proven analytical and problem solving skills with the ability to develop innovative and concrete solutions to complex institutional problems.
  • Extensive knowledge of the University of Alberta, its strategic plan, key initiatives, structures, systems policies, procedures and values are considered an asset.
