Director of Operations

Job Summary:
The Director of Operations role actively manages the performance of the Middle Office, Treasury and Loan Administration (TLA) and Money Transfers and Deposits (MTD) functions in order to ensure timely execution and delivery of existing products or to support the introduction of new products, under a controlled and efficient environment.

Primary Accountabilities: Client Experience - Responsibilities include:

  • Lead the Operations and Middle Office teams to deliver superior service in a timely, accurate and efficient manner to our customers and internal counterparts working in collaboration with Front Office.
  • Maintain and foster an open, transparent, and positive relationship with other internal peer departments, such as Risk, Finance, HR, OM, Compliance, Legal, etc.
Operations Director Key accountabilities:
  • Operations and Middle Office Departments performance management objectives and monitoring, coaching and mentoring of Direct team members in the spirit of the established corporate culture values and principles.
  • Partnership and key advisor with Business units such as Japanese Corporate Banking, Canadian Corporate Banking, Transactional Banking and Treasury.
  • Develop strong collaboration and synergies with other local supporting areas and regional and Head Office teams as well.
  • Strengthen controls where applicable and ensure streamline processes with special emphasis on scaling operations under a controlled environment.
  • Ensure that existing controls that are compliant with HO and regulatory requirements and MUFG Canada policy.
  • Develop detailed operational volume and efficiency metrics to facilitate operational planning and reporting to senior management and HO and pro-active management of risks and resources.
  • Monitor and respond to changes in regulations, policies, internal and third party systems including CDS, DTCC, FXAT, etc., identifying benefits and impacts to business processes and systems and leading and resourcing the resulting change initiatives.
  • Support and provide timely response/information to and action on any requests or deficiency resulting from an internal or external audit or Compliance Self-Testing.
  • Responsible for the maintenance of the Business Continuity plans (BCP) to ensure compliant with regulatory and Head Office, Americas, and Canada policies.
Operations BURM Key accountabilities:
  • Issue Management \xe2\x80\x93 Identification, remediation planning, ongoing monitoring and closure validation.
  • RCSA \xe2\x80\x93 Annual, document process, risk identification and assessment, map and test controls, track key risk metrics, verify end to end risk and control handoffs across Operations and Middle Office.
  • Third Party Risk (TPM) \xe2\x80\x93 Engagement review, risk and performance monitoring, issue tracking, and escalation point for TPM to reasonably ensure ongoing compliance with the program.
  • Governance and Monitoring \xe2\x80\x93 Support with the monthly and quarterly reporting tasks, monthly and quarterly Committee tasks, and quarterly annual certification tasks.
  • End user computing (EUC) \xe2\x80\x93 Calculators and tools risk assessment, control testing and inventory monitoring.
  • Risk Governance \xe2\x80\x93 Project and change framework risk assessment, perform credible challenge to Operations and Middle Office, and validate respective risk governance assessments.
Canada Branch Data Officer Key accountabilities:
  • Partner with BURCO / BURM to complete RGA and RCSA as required, and developing necessary improvement plans and establishment of meaningful key risk metrics for monitoring and reporting into risk committees and Second Line of Defense.
  • Ensure ongoing compliance with the Data Management policy, including Participation in Policy Working Group, and to report potential Exceptions or Policy Variances in line with Issue Management standards.
  • Ensure required data management roles are resourced within the business/function, and that they are effective, including Data Stewards.
  • Partner with the CDO to develop and mature the DQ incident management and DQPM processes, including robust entry criteria and meeting DQPM turnaround time targets.
  • Ensure that data issues (Regulatory, IAA, MSII) within the business are appropriately tagged and tracked until closed.
  • Partner with the CDO to expand Data Management/BCBS 239 best practices to other prioritized areas including:
  • Participation in Skills assessment and Training related to the Data Officer function.
Technical Skills:
  • Highly analytical professional with a solid experience and understanding Corporate Investment Banking and Global Markets.
  • Strategic communicator able to translate and explain concepts and ideas, write / edit briefing notes and technical reports, able to speak effectively to all levels within the organization.
  • Ability to facilitate negotiation and build consensus, strong organization, planning and leadership skills.
Experience Required:
  • 10 years of managing people and in Financial Industry experience supporting Treasury, Global Markets and Corporate Credit business units.
  • The individual will possess a strong knowledge of financial debt and credit products such as Corporate Loans, Letters of Credit, debt instruments, repos, security lending / borrowing, foreign exchange (Spot and Forward), IR and FX derivatives, deposit and loans, Money Transfers, etc.
  • The role will operate within a demanding and time sensitive environment. Accordingly the successful individual need to have strong leadership.
Education & Training:
  • At the minimum, the candidate should have a Bachelor\xe2\x80\x99s in Business, Finance or other related filed, with an MBA designation as ideal..
Work Environment:
The role can be executed within the Toronto Office or in a "hybrid" capacity with possible, occasional travel. The location will be determined by agreement between Direct Manager and employee and will be aligned with Branch requirements such as work force modernization initiative, or any future Branch initiative. As per business continuity requirements, it may be required to execute the role from an alternative recovery site location.
