Your mission

Reporting to the President of Riverside Opticalab Group, from the Ottawa location, you will be responsible for insuring a direction of the leadership team in the management and profitability of the establishments (Ottawa Industrial Laboratory and Mississauga facilities), with is contributing to the group\'s North American industrial laboratories network, to ensure the achievement of operational excellence. You will ensure the direction of the individual laboratory operations, including management of production processes, quality and continuous improvement, equipment and maintenance, customer orientation / service, health and safety / environment and administration, Supply Chain and projects. This position is responsible for the manufacturing process, which includes from inventory management to the transformation of Rx lenses (surfacing, treatments, and quality control, edging and mounting), invoicing as well as shipping with also ensure the management of our manufacturing network strategies in North America. This position is accountable of building a cohesive team through organisation, coordination, communication, people development and ensure the health and safety of all employees working in the Group\'s facilities including other teams and shared services.

You must develop talent and take the appropriate steps to manage a laboratory\'s budget and achieve expected profitability by controlling costs of labor, materials and others. Direct activities in this role are typically managing facilities with 200 or more employees, over 2,000 Rx jobs per day.

Your main challenges

  • Provide leadership that promotes teamwork, respect for employees, autonomy and open communication. Recommend, implement and coordinate with best practices and shared service policies that maximize employee development, training and performance;
  • Prioritization and invest in the development of the organization and its staff. Ensure that activities are in place to continually develop departmental employees and assess future management / leadership potential;
  • Identification and implementation of an optimal structure and basic processes for the laboratory manufacturing function. Continually improve each of the above to achieve efficiencies and help better meet changing customer needs. Learn to coordinate, direct and manage all aspects of laboratory operations and works closely with the various stakeholders to implement the strategies;
  • Initiate activities that support the strategies of the North American group laboratories to achieve the plan. Change agent who influences change efforts by leading and coordinating these efforts and activities in multiple locations;
  • Ensure the team leverages its knowledge of various employee equipment and capabilities to optimize workflow. Make sure the team works together to quickly change the workflow if needed. Respect operating procedures and standards and suggests improvements to management;
  • Establishment of clear and achievable performance objectives directly linked to laboratory performance expectations and plans in terms of quality, productivity and growth. Create an environment that inspires the team to take personal ownership to achieve ambitious goals and improve performance;
  • Implementation of cost-effective systems to control capital, operating expenses and labor costs;
  • Respect operational budgets, forecasts and profit targets;
  • Monitor and control the KPIs and make the necessary adjustments to stay at acceptable performance levels;
  • Process management, budget / continuous improvement, maintenance of equipment and facilities, cost of materials / labor;
  • Ensure synergy and collaboration between all internal and external departments;
  • Establishing and publishing the dashboard of key performance indicators of a laboratory;
  • Assist in the coordination of training and continuous improvement tools for production managers and employees;
  • Coordination of the maintenance service in terms of priorities, preventive and corrective maintenance;
  • Monitor the inventory of raw materials, parts and consumables relating to the production and maintenance of the building in order to assist in the governance of inventory controls of laboratory needs and consumables;
  • Be an ambassador for EHS rules and employee health and safety to all locations;
  • Management of building maintenance;
  • Guide company towards a contingency operational plan
ADMINISTRATION
  • Prepare visual analysis and design presentations;
  • Present the results of operational strategies, executive summaries and other presentations to management levels of the organization in connection with the compliance of the group\'s industrial laboratories;
  • Perform annual and semi-annual assessments and performance evaluations;
  • Any other related tasks;
Your profile
  • University Diploma (Baccalaureate) (engineering, management, administration) or equivalent;
  • 5 to 7 years of professional experience in optics and personnel management;
  • 7 to 10 years of manufacturing experience required;
  • One to three (1-3) years of experience with the Essilorluxottica Group (Strong asset);
  • Have a history of good performance;
  • Demonstrates leadership skills in previous roles and have managed and inspired big groups;
  • Good knowledge of optics and its manufacturing processes;
  • Good knowledge of Rx technologies and optical measuring instruments;
  • Good basic mechanical and electrical knowledge;
  • Good knowledge of project management methodologies as well as the use of continuous improvement tools (Lean, Six Sigma, problem solving);
  • Good knowledge of budget management and required P&L;
  • Be mobile (able to move 10 to 30% maximum of the time in Canada);
  • Good handling of statistical data and execution of reports;
  • Strong ability to analyze and solve technical and organizational problems;
  • Be a good trainer and ability to transfer knowledge;
  • Ability to communicate and group animation;
  • Ability to develop others;
  • Language requirement : English - spoken and written (French is an asset);
  • Ability to create contacts / networking with excellent social and communication skills;
  • Demonstrates excellent relationships with employees and customers.
