About the Role
The Director, Marketing & Communications, is the strategic anchor of the department, responsible for shaping vision, strengthening process, while driving performance and executing all department related deliverables. This role leads a multi-disciplinary team in the delivery of cohesive, high-impact marketing and communications that reflect Toronto Pan Am Sports Centre's (TPASC) brand, mission, and values focused on excellence. The Director also has responsibility for customer service excellence across the facility, ensuring that the guest experience aligns with TPASC's reputation as a world-class sport and recreation destination.
The Director is both a team leader and team player, ensuring internal collaboration and external visibility while overseeing planning, budgeting, and cross-functional alignment. They will provide senior-level expertise and counsel to the Managing Director and other Directors and departments on branding, messaging, communication, audience targeting and engagement, marketing and partnership activation and revenue generation opportunities.
The Director will oversee a department responsible for:
Marketing strategy, campaigns, and digital engagement
Brand development strategy, deployment, management and brand governance
Media relations and all internal and external corporate communications
Website, social media and TPASC app management and optimization
Content strategy, creation / production (in-house and through external parties) and execution
Sponsorship, partnership, and stakeholder brand, marketing, communications and data support
Executing all company promotional campaigns
In-house creative services and collateral development
Market research, analytics, and performance tracking
Key Responsibilities:
Strategic Leadership & Planning
Lead the development and implementation of an integrated annual marketing and communications strategy aligned with TPASC's strategic goals and brand priorities.
Translate executive and organizational direction into clear, actionable roadmaps for marketing, communications, and stakeholder engagement.
Champion brand consistency and ensure organization-wide adoption of the brand strategy and governance standards.
Provide counsel to the Managing Director and leadership team on strategic opportunities, risks, and communications positioning.
Ensure all levels of the accountability framework for the department are managed and executed in alignment with the overall goals and objectives of the company.
Departmental Operations & Team Development
Oversee departmental operations, including resource allocation, workflow design, and staff performance management.
Establish streamlined processes and collaboration protocols to maximize cross-departmental impact.
Cultivate a strong, agile, and collaborative team culture, supporting innovation, knowledge sharing, and professional growth.
Supervise and mentor staff and interns, ensuring clarity of roles, accountability, and alignment with departmental goals.
Oversee the departmental operational plan and lead the integration of all team member and organizational collaboration and integration.
Brand Strategy & Communications
Lead the rollout, adoption, and governance of TPASC's brand strategy, ensuring consistent brand representation across all channels.
Direct internal and external communications, ensuring professional, timely, and impactful messaging.
Act as an organizational spokesperson where appropriate, managing media relations and high-profile public communications.
Build and maintain strong relationships with key stakeholders including media outlets, sponsors, partners, and sport organizations.
Marketing & Promotional Campaign Management (Digital and Print)
Design and oversee integrated campaigns that enhance brand equity, drive business development, and increase engagement.
Partner with Business Development to co-create revenue-generating campaigns and enhance sponsor visibility.
Ensure the effective use of data, analytics, and digital platforms in campaign planning, execution, and evaluation.
Track progress through marketing dashboards and KPIs, reporting results to executive leadership.
Stay current with marketing, digital, and communication trends, adapting best practices to TPASC's context.
TPASC Customer Service - Customer Experience
Work closely with customer service, customer sales with a focus on ensuring overall customer experience excellence.
Integrate the marketing, communications and promotions activities with a strong alignment to ensuring current and future satisfaction is achieved with all levels of paid and unpaid user groups who visit and take advantage of the services, space and operations associated with TPASC.
Engage with the company in conducting meaning research, data collection and customer understanding that can be used to provide the highest level of custom satisfaction at all times.
Financial Oversight & Reporting
Develop, manage, and report on the departmental operating budget, aligning resources with strategic priorities.
Forecast, track, and analyze expenditures, ensuring efficient use of funds and adherence to budget parameters.
Prepare executive-level reports and strategic briefs summarizing department performance, risks, and emerging opportunities and other duties as required.
Qualifications and Experience:
University degree in Marketing, Communications, Business Administration, or related field; Master's degree an asset.
12-15 years of progressive experience in marketing and communications, with at least five in a senior leadership role.
Proven leadership experience in sport, entertainment, or venue management, or other high-profile, public-facing organizations.
Demonstrated success in developing and executing integrated marketing and communications strategies for large, complex organizations.
Strong background in brand strategy, media relations, sponsorship support, and stakeholder engagement.
Expertise in digital marketing, analytics, and campaign measurement, with demonstrated ability to apply insights to strategy.
Proven track record of budget management, resource planning, and performance dashboard reporting.
Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to influence and engage diverse internal and external audiences.
Strong project management skills, with the ability to balance multiple initiatives and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office 365 and digital marketing platforms (e.g., Google Analytics, CMS, CRM, social scheduling tools).
Familiarity with design and creative tools (e.g., Adobe Creative Suite or Canva) considered an asset.
Experience working with or managing external agencies, vendors, or consultants.
The successful candidate will be required to obtain a Police Vulnerable Sector Check.
