The Opportunity - Director, Marketing & Communications The Director, Marketing & Communications, provides strategic direction and leadership in corporate communications, and marketing, including media relations, crisis communications, internal and external communications, special events, fiscal management, budgeting, and staffing management. This role provides vision and leadership to advance brand visibility, strengthen reputation, and increase employee engagement. The Director, Marketing & Communications provides communications counsel and leadership to the senior executive leaders of the President\xe2\x80\x99s Office and the Board of Governors. Key Job Functions:

  • Provide strategic direction and leadership for the Marketing Communications department and strategic third parties (AgSmart, third party agencies).
  • Supervise, coach and mentor the Marketing Communications team.
  • Participate as a member of the Leadership Team and Advancement\xe2\x80\x99s management team; build relationships with the College\xe2\x80\x99s many internal and external publics to develop communications and marketing strategies that advance the brand of the College.
  • Craft and curate Olds College brand through campaign development, strategic communications and marketing planning and creative direction.
  • Develop and implement an annual corporate campaign and events plan providing long range marketing strategies to support Olds College objectives.
  • Coordinate and implement issue management strategies by identifying emerging and controversial issues; create and recommend strategies for the College\xe2\x80\x99s responses to media and public concerns and inquiries.
  • Work with the College\xe2\x80\x99s partners (Community Learning Campus) to ensure brand alignment.
  • Responsible for ensuring that the President and all College Executives are provided with briefings, presentation materials and updates to current issues, as appropriate.
  • Review the performance of communication programs and tools to evaluate their effectiveness and to determine whether objectives are met.
  • Responsible for College primary communication tools including the external website, oldscollege.ca, regular publications, and corporate social media feeds.
  • Develop and update all Olds College policies related to Communications and Marketing, such as social media policy, web policy, crisis communications policy and media policy.
  • Track innovations and trends in marketing and communications; monitor trends and developments in public opinion, both national and audience specific, regarding post-secondary issues.
  • Developing and maintaining crisis communications. Lead advisory role for communications on the Crisis Response Team.
  • Develop and manage the capital and operating budget for Communications and Marketing departmental programs and projects. This includes managing resource allocation, planning facility utilization, maintenance and enhancement.
Education/Experience/Skills/Knowledge Required:
  • A Degree in marketing, public relations, communications or a related discipline.
  • A minimum of five years of progressive related work experience.
  • A demonstrated pattern of professional and personal development.
  • Previous experience preparing and managing an operating budget.
  • Solid experience in management consulting, leadership development, teambuilding and change management.
  • Ability to understand business needs and to link policy and program initiatives to business objectives.
  • Strategic thinking skills with a results orientation.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with staff, students, contractors orally and in writing.
  • Ability to develop and implement long-range strategic plans.
  • Ability to train, motivate and develop staff.
  • Knowledge of Agricultural marketing practices
