Your opportunity:

The Marketing & Communications team at the University of Toronto Scarborough is looking for a dynamic, innovative communicator to join us. Our team is a highly collaborative group of Marketing Communications professionals, driven to find new and creative ways to reach our audiences. We uncover the most inspiring and impactful stories from our communities and share those moments with audiences locally, nationally and internationally. We bring the U of T story to life, every day.

Under the general direction of the Executive Director, Marketing & Communications for the University of Toronto Scarborough, the Director is responsible for managing a team of creative content developers including interactive digital producers, social media and web specialists, writers, and graphic artist at UTSC. The Director develops and guides the implementation of the marketing communications content strategy that engages target audiences and drives the key messages for the campus. The Director is part of the management team and is responsible for reporting and tracking metrics of the overall campus marketing strategies as per the strategic plan. The Director works collaboratively with UTSG and UTM communication colleagues to ensure strategies are aligned and mutually beneficial.

The Director provides strategic, creative and technical leadership and guidance for marketing communications initiatives from initial development to execution and measurement. The Director is the chief content decision maker and is responsible for determining and selecting appropriate editorial platforms, assigning stories, evaluating pitches, editing work, developing comprehensive marketing communications plans, and evaluating work quality and quantity.

The incumbent also represents the Executive Director at university meetings and within the department as needed.

Qualifications Required:

EDUCATION:

University degree in public affairs, journalism, communications, marketing, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Graduate degree an asset.

EXPERIENCE:

Must have a minimum of 7 years\' experience in marketing communications management. Experience using digital platforms to advance marketing communications objectives. Experience in project management. Experience working with multiple stakeholders Experience managing staff, preferably in a unionized environment. Demonstrated experience in media and journalism. Public sector management experience. Proven experience building teams of diverse content creators to reflect audiences.

SKILLS:

Excellent oral and written communication skills and presentation, including copywriting and editing. A strong creative and strategic thinker. Proficiency in computer applications including PowerPoint, Excel, and Word.

OTHER:

Must show evidence of a commitment to equity, diversity, inclusion and the promotion of a respectful and collegial learning and working environment. Proficiency in developing content for print and digital communications. Demonstrated experience in editorial strategy development in a complex organization. Experience creating dynamic, experiential communications and marketing initiatives with limited budgets. Understanding of and demonstrated ability to successfully navigate a complex, decentralized organization. Ability to deal professionally with tension and potential conflict to lead teams collaboratively through challenging issues or projects. Ability to meet tight deadlines and to perform well under pressure. Ability to work in a consensus driven environment and to manage multiple projects and priorities within established timelines. Comprehensive understanding of the diverse communities that make up UTSC and demonstrated experience working with these communities on collaborative projects.
