Purpose

Director, Clients and Chanel Support within International Wealth Management division leads and oversees the successful distribution of investment products offered by the Asset Management units within the LatAm and CCAU regions. The Director is responsible for ensuring business strategies, plans and initiatives are executed / delivered in compliance with governing local regulations, internal policies and procedures.

Accountabilities

  • Leads and drives a customer focused culture throughout their team to deepen client relationships and leverage broader Bank relationships, systems and knowledge.


Business Strategy & TOM

  • Help draft operational strategy to support IWM goals and targets as it relates to channel support.
  • Work collaboratively with local Asset Mgmt. units in LatAm and the Caribbean in the design and implementation of growth strategy and operational framework.
  • Work in coordination with AM and Institutional colleagues to support the distribution of products and services as identify in the IAM growth goals and priorities.
  • Support target operating model for in country distribution.
  • Collect and analyse channel feedback as it relates to products and operational framework.
  • Participate in inorganic growth strategy through M&A.


Business Corporate Governance

  • Ensure corporate governance oversight and regulatory requirements are fulfill by channels.
  • Provide subject matter expert on operational matters to channels related but not limited to: Portfolio Mgmt., New Product support, Strategic Asset Allocation, Investment Mgmt. Research among others.
  • Help rollout Portfolio Solutions / Model Portfolios through a divisional strategic and tactical asset allocation model.


Client Portfolio Management & Channel Support

  • Support expansion of wealth Mgmt. proposition through Asset Mgmt. products and product support for Private Banking, Trust business and offshore solutions.
  • Identify and monitor licensing requirements as mandated by local legislation, coordinate implementation in local units.
  • Provide guidance in respect to investment product support, investment Mgmt. strategies, communication of investment and market views to distribution channels.
  • Strength Asset Mgmt. / Distribution communication support activities with updated communication pieces to support and enhance IWM value proposition.


P&L Management & AUM Growth

  • Lead collaboratively with IAM units and their respective in-country distribution channels the definition of annual AUM growth targets, ensuring ongoing monitoring, of distribution and client segment channels performance against profitable AUM growth metrics in conjunction with local units, IWM and IB partners.
  • Monitor and ensure proper Mgmt. of incentive frameworks (compensation, recognition and total rewards) for all in country teams across businesses (Pensions, Asset Mgmt. and Institutional Asset Mgmt.).
  • Understand how the Bank’s risk appetite and risk culture should be considered in day-to-day activities and decisions.
  • Creates an environment in which their team pursues effective and efficient operations of their respective areas in accordance with Scotiabank’s Values, its Code of Conduct and the Global Sales Principles, while ensuring the adequacy, adherence to and effectiveness of day-to-day business controls to meet obligations with respect to operational, compliance, AML/ATF/sanctions and conduct risk.
  • Builds a high performance environment and implements a people strategy that attracts, retains, develops and motivates their team by fostering an inclusive work environment and using a coaching mindset and behaviours; communicating vison/values/business strategy; and, managing succession and development planning for the team.

Education / Experience
  • University degree in Business, Economics or related discipline.
  • Minimum of 10 years professional experience in the asset management or pension fund management industry.
  • The incumbent must possess good understanding of LatAm’s Pension Asset Management industries, tactical planning, project management and effective resource management skills combined with superior strategic influencing skills.
  • Must have organizational know-how and very strong interpersonal skills in order to promote acceptance of recommendations and in obtaining support from other functional areas in Global Asset Management and International Banking.
  • Ability to articulate their views/opinions to all levels within the Bank from the various international operations within the Division. The incumbent must be able to assist and represent the Bank in negotiations in a multitude of internal and external venues including negotiations with vendors, foreign government agencies, regulators and business partners.
  • Fully bilingual English/Spanish required;
  • Ability to listen, understand and adapt to a constantly changing environment;
  • Strategic vision and ability to become an enabler of change;
  • Experience working with different cultures with a focus on emerging markets;
  • Strong public speaking skills with past experience in preparing and presenting to senior management;
  • Experience managing multi-dimensional projects from concept to completion within a matrix environment across different cultures;
  • Strong quantitative and analytical skills;
  • Ability to function in a team environment;
  • Self-driven, results-oriented and an ability to work under pressure;
  • Excellent relationship building and negotiation skills to build and maintain strong supportive relationships with stakeholders across the organization;
  • Strong planning, time management and organizational skills; ability to multi-task across many projects simultaneously and meet tight deadline


Working Conditions

  • Work in a standard office-based environment; non-standard hours are a common occurrence. Travel within the LatAm and CCAU is required.
