(employee will be working with or have access to children or vulnerable adults and requires a Criminal Record Check)NoIn accordance with the Vision, Purpose, and Values, and strategic direction of the Vancouver Island Health Authority (Island Health) patient and staff safety is a priority and a responsibility shared by everyone; as such, the requirement to continuously improve quality and safety is inherent in all aspects of this position.Reporting to the Vice-President (VP), Communications & Partnerships, the Director, Internal & Leadership Communications is responsible for strategic planning and operational leadership of internal communications that foster positive staff and medical staff engagement and collaboration within Island Health.Key responsibilities include development and implementation of internal and leadership communications and engagement strategies, branding initiatives and tactics linked to Island Health\'s strategic framework and vision. Provides leadership and direction to a team of professional communications staff responsible for providing communications guidance and tools in support of overall Island Health strategy, including staff/medical staff town halls, management of and support for information and engagement campaigns, intranet website and content coordination, and coordination of print and electronic publication materials. Oversees internal communications and engagement projects ensuring appropriate messaging, change management communications and organizational branding, working in collaboration with inter- and intra-portfolio partners.Works closely with senior leaders across Island Health and all levels of the organization to provide communications counsel including consultation, facilitation and negotiation. Liaises with government and other agencies and works with other health authorities, regional boards and agencies regarding common issues and announcements.QUALIFICATIONS:Education, Training And ExperienceA level of education, training and experience equivalent to a Master\'s Degree in Communications, Journalism, or Public Relations, or other relevant discipline plus a minimum of ten (10) years\' recent related experience in progressively more complex senior management/leadership roles in a large, multi-union environment.Skills And Abilities

  • Mastery of communications and government relations concepts, strategies, and technical skills required in the planning, execution, and evaluation of government relations, community relations, and communication plans for a diverse and complex range of internal and external partners.
  • Outstanding oral and written communication skills.
  • Strong public speaking skills with the ability to engage diverse audiences.
  • Experience in developing response plans, coordinating messaging and managing media inquiries during emergencies or sensitive situations.
  • Knowledge of public policy, philanthropy, health promotion, and social marketing as applied to health care.
  • Knowledge of legislative policy development and processes of various levels of government.
  • Demonstrated leadership and managerial skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to create and execute strategic communications plans.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage partners and navigate complex relationships, supported by an acute awareness of the impact of actions.
  • Demonstrated ability to problem-solve with a global perspective in order to incorporate the organization\'s systems and strategies when developing viable solutions to problems.
  • Demonstrated willingness to take initiative, be creative, and exercise sound judgment.
  • Adherence to the highest ethical standards, demonstrating accountability, integrity, and transparency in actions at all times.
  • Demonstrated commitment to the value of continuous learning.
  • Proficiency in the use of personal computers and applicable computer software applications.
  • Physical ability to perform the duties of the position.
