Job Description

The Faculty of Health is the second largest and one of the most complex Faculties at Dalhousie University, comprised of nine Schools/College, two Programs, Healthy Populations Institute, Resilience Research Centre, Centre for Transformative Nursing and Heath Research, and in partnership with the Faculties of Medicine and Dentistry, the Centre for Collaborative Clinical Learning and Research. Reporting to the Dean, the Director, Human Resources is accountable for the overall human resource management of both unionized and non-unionized employees, long-term workforce planning and development, and the cultivation of an environment of respect and inclusion. The Director participates in strategic initiatives that align with the Faculty of Health's priorities around being the best place to work.
Key Responsibilities

  • Responsible for the planning, development and advising on human resource management for the Faculty and Staff.
  • Researches, develops and implements human resources strategies by establishing
Faculty accountabilities, including talent acquisition, employment processing, onboarding, compensation, training and development, retention, records management, performance management, succession planning and employee/labor relations. * Responsible for developing a culture that enables employees to perform in accordance with the University's objectives and priorities with goal attainment of a culture that supports and fosters a responsible, healthy and productive workforce.
  • Ensures compliance with federal and provincial laws and industry regulations,
Collective Agreements, etc., and advises Dean, Directors, School/College managers
on legal implications of HR issues related to discipline and employee grievances. * Guides management and employee actions by researching, developing, writing, and
updating policies, procedures, methods, and guidelines, communicating and enforcing
organization values. * Manages, develops and/or revises the payroll systems within the Faculty's nine Schools/College, Programs and Dean's Office. This system includes information on full-time and part-time Faculty, full-time Staff, part-time teaching and all other Staff.
Note
The successful applicant will be eligible for hybrid work (combination of in-person work on campus and remote work from within Nova Scotia) as agreed by all parties based on operational requirements and university guidelines.
Required Qualifications
  • Undergraduate degree in relevant field such as Business Administration (Human Resources) or Public Administration, plus at least seven years' of progressively responsible experience in Human Resources (or equivalent combination of training and experience).
  • CPHR Designation.
  • Excellent relationship-building, interpersonal, and communication (verbal, written and presentation) skills.
  • Strong collaboration and problem-solving ability with proven sound judgement.
  • Management and leadership skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage large portfolios and balance competing priorities.
