Reporting to the Vice-President, HSSE, the Director, Health and Safety plays a pivotal role within Davie. They are responsible for developing, implementing, and overseeing health and safety strategies, processes, and systems to support the company's shipbuilding and ship repair programs and projects.
This role involves fostering a strong, proactive health and safety culture, aimed at achieving Davie's HSSE objectives and world-class standards. The incumbent works closely with the Vice?President, HSSE to define the health and safety strategy, establish short- and medium-term objectives, and develop concrete action plans to achieve them.
More specifically, you will;
Ensure that all employees understand the importance of the health and safety culture that Davie aims to optimize, and provide the necessary coaching to promote this aspect in daily activities.
Continuously promote occupational health and safety (OHS) awareness throughout the company by leading by example and providing support at all levels of management, to ensure the safe execution of tasks by skilled workers, subcontractors, and other personnel.
Ensure continuous improvement of the health and safety system, policies, procedures, and guidelines to meet or exceed applicable laws, regulations, and industry best practices.
Act as a subject matter expert in developing training courses to increase health and safety awareness among employees, customers, and visitors, while fostering a mindset shift towards a world-class health and safety culture.
Ensure that critical OHS risks are identified, employees are informed and properly trained, and effective control measures are implemented to minimize the risk of accidents.
Develop programs to make supervisors role models in accident prevention, promoting an effective OHS culture.
Implement methods to share lessons learned to all concerned, reinforcing health and safety awareness throughout the shipyard.
Develop and maintain key performance indicators, with a focus on leading versus lagging indicators, to assess health and safety performance and drive continuous improvement initiatives.
Use data analysis to guide the optimization of health and safety policies, guidelines, programs, and projects.
Develop and lead a team of health and safety professionals by providing guidance, coaching, and performance feedback to foster a collaborative working environment and maintain a motivated, effective team.
Establish and maintain relationships with agencies such as CNESST, Workplace, etc.
Support the return-to-work and temporary assignment processes.
Develop and manage the departmental budget.
