About the Opportunity
  • Reporting to the VP, People & Culture and as a member of the HR Leadership Team, provides leadership and guidance to the occupational health team including the respective Managers and indirectly (OHNs / AS) related to their responsibilities in administrating the HW&S Program
  • Assumes responsibility for the occupational health & safety and wellness strategy, programs, policies, standards to ensure compliance with relevant legislation and regulations in all Provinces where Shannex operates
  • Recognizes OH&S risks with companywide implications and implements appropriate solutions
  • Identifies appropriate and reflective Key Performance Indicators to monitor and evaluate the status of the overall OH&S program compliance within the organization and visibility of the performance
  • Directs the company's Worker's Compensation claims handling structure and strategies with the objective to ensure compliance with provincial reporting requirements, safe return to work and mitigation of financial exposure to the business
  • Responsible for the development and management of strategies to ensure OH&S cultural engagement efforts are supported, implemented and aligned with business strategies
  • Provides oversight to ensure appropriate documentation and storage of private medical information, consistency in adjudication of medical leaves and information requests that are in keeping with human rights legislation and case law.
About You
  • Degree in Science, HR, Business or Health-related field
  • Minimum of ten (10) years of management experience
  • Minimum eight (8) years of Occupational Health & Safety experience in a unionized healthcare environment, or equivalent combination of education, training and experience
  • Comprehensive understanding of applicable federal, provincial and municipal legislation and regulations pertaining to occupational health & safety and claims management and human rights.
  • Certified Return to Work Coordinator (NIDMAR) or Certified Disability Professional considered an asset
  • Health and Safety Related Certification (Canadian Registered Safety Professional) and/or related experience or professional designation (OHN), considered an asset
  • A passion for the healthcare sector and/or ensuring seniors have access to quality accommodations, services and care.
