Department: Corporate Operations Position summary The Director, Enterprise Project Management & Change Excellence is responsible for Travel Alberta\xe2\x80\x99s overall project (portfolio and program) management function and ensures that the organization\xe2\x80\x99s projects, programs, and structured work efforts are relevant and add value to the strategy of the organization. Reporting into the SVP, Chief Financial Officer, the role will be expected to establish a fit-for-purpose and value-driven project methodology that can be applied to both IT and non-IT projects. Overseeing financial planning and budget tracking within the portfolios, the Director will be responsible for multi-level project reporting tailored for a diverse audience comprised of the board of directors, senior executives and various project and program working groups. Change excellence plays a big part in the success in this role and this role will be responsible for the development and stewardship of change management processes, tools, and methods. The role will provide strategic engagement at a senior level to ensure projects deliver desired outcomes, interdependencies are recognized and managed, and decisions made on projects are in the best interests of the organization. The Director will manage change integration and transition of projects to business-as-usual activities. Success Measures: In the first year the successful candidate will be relied on to articulate core services of the Enterprise Project Management Office (EPMO) (i.e., it\xe2\x80\x99s mandate) and build relationships with its key stakeholders to establish consensus on the core services with senior leadership and business partners. They will assess and develop a talent plan for the EMPO (team configuration, internal talent assessment, outsourced vendor partner review) as well as provide ongoing coaching and mentoring. The successful individual will complete enterprise project dashboards and portfolio views and lead the development of EPMO processes, including a review of frameworks, templates, and checklists. This office will enable a new way of working for Travel Alberta and gaining stakeholder buy-in, promoting the benefits, influencing change, and managing culture impacts will be critical to the successful introduction of this office/ business unit. What you need

  • Minimum 15 years progressively responsible work experience leading a PMO or in senior program or portfolio delivery role
  • Experience with implementing a project management methodology, and a background in multiple project delivery methodologies (i.e., Waterfall, Agile, etc.).
  • Advanced knowledge and demonstrated experience in program and change management and associated methodologies, techniques, processes, and approaches.
  • Advanced knowledge of the Project Management Book of Knowledge (PMBOK) or PRINCE2 methodology and its application across varied project lifecycles.
  • Certification in Project Management (PMP, Prince 2) is preferred to be active, but not required.
  • Professional certification in management of project portfolios (MoP) considered an asset.
  • Professional certification in change management is considered an asset.
  • Exceptional leadership skills, with the ability to communicate the EPMO vision, provide robust challenge and inspire and motivate staff.
  • Excellent analytical, strategic conceptual thinking, strategic planning, and execution skills.
  • Proven collaborative approach in engaging and influencing stakeholders involved in the project delivery model.
  • Effective negotiation and problem resolution skills, with the ability to build relationships across varied stakeholder groups including Executive levels.
  • Solid client-facing communication skills and presentation skills.

  • Ensures project visibility (regular status reports, shared dashboards, stakeholder communication)
  • Execution of short to mid-term roadmap of enterprise initiatives and projects and how the organization will achieve the strategic goals
  • Prioritizes projects based on the value it brings to the organization
  • Effectively manages project integration (delivery, tasks, and stakeholders)
  • Regularly engages with Senior Leaders and communicated the milestones and impacts of projects
Internal Processes, Technology and Data
  • Define and implement project delivery strategy, methodologies, standards, and tools, to provide consistency of project implementation
  • Standardizes and regularly evaluates PMO structure, policies, procedures, and processes
  • Integrates EPMO processes across business functions (IT, Procurement, HR)
  • Adapts different project management tools, methodologies, and practices to based outcomes of the project and needs of the team
  • Drives measurement management and outcome-driven culture (i.e., develops, or aligns to a value creation/realization framework)
  • Provides formal assurance on the quality of processes, methodology, approaches, and structure
  • Adopts digital tools that enhances collaboration and communication
  • Uses data to make evidence-based decisions
  • Focuses on implementing Cloud-Based, Real-Time tools using methodology and practices in alignment with industry standards and best practices
Culture of Change Adaptability
  • Develops change management methodology and tools
  • Leads with agility to adapt as strategy shifts and fosters a culture where change is expected and welcomed
  • Optimizes resources among projects, providing visibility into the status of those resources for proper investment, workload, and capacity planning
  • Accurately assesses the scale of change taking place within the organization at any one time
  • Builds and supports a network of change managers
  • Provides ongoing coaching and mentoring to project and change managers
  • Strengthens internal learning through creating communities of practice and knowledge management
Analytics, Measurement and Reporting
  • Develops predictive insights to enable more accurate forecasting and smarter decision-making
  • Defines and implements key performance indicators for the measurement and reporting of projects
  • Consistently measures and reviews enterprise project performance
  • Develops and facilitates a robust Project/Program reporting structure (including reports, dashboards, and other forms of stakeholder communication)
  • Provides tangible, repeatable, long-term benefits to the organization
  • Fully aligns initiatives and KPIs to the broader organizations critical strategic and change goals
