WHAT YOU\'LL BRING


MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor\'s degree in finance, law, business, math, economics, engineering, or science.
  • Minimum ten years of progressive experience in; corporate development, regulatory affairs, contract management and negotiations within the energy sector.
  • Strong ability to identify and execute new opportunities in the energy market, create new products, and develop new strategies that are commercially viable offerings and solutions.
  • Effective leader who motivates and engages others through fostering a collaborative team environment; people-orientated with strong interpersonal skills, builds and maintains relationships across the business with various stakeholders internally and externally, and at all levels.
  • Proven research and commercial analysis experience; ability to assess opportunities, identify risks and make recommendations on priorities.
  • Proven drive for results; demonstrate solid judgment with strong business acumen and proven track record of achieving success and exceeding department goals and profitability targets.
  • Possesses exceptional organizational skills, strong attention to detail, high sense of discretion and urgency. Possess a positive attitude with a proactive approach.
  • Well-developed communications skills: the ability to influence and communicate effectively to facilitate liaising with senior management.
  • Experience in establishing credibility, confidence, and earning trust. A highly collaborative, out-of-the-box strategic thinker and effective leader is required for this position.



PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Advanced Degree; Master of Business Administration (MBA) or Finance professional designation (CPA, CA, CFA, etc.)
  • Strong understanding of energy markets, supply and demand, competitive market intelligence, etc.
  • Energy and wholesale origination, energy trading, and/or energy and power advisory experience; exposure to negotiating power sale/purchase energy contracts while working with multiple internal and external stakeholders.
  • Experience in providing advice regarding financial transactions, legal agreements, general corporate/commercial matters and processes.
  • Solutions-focused takes the initiative and has strong problem-solving skills to address and overcome current and future challenges. A strong drive and a high energy level, commitment, and enthusiasm to take on complex and challenging situations in a dynamic and complex organization.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, changing environment while effectively managing and adapting to multiple changing priorities.
  • Experience working within a highly standardized process of procedural safety and regulatory compliance environment.
  • Experience working in/for/on behalf of highly regulated industries such as utilities, energy and power generation.
  • Competency and knowledge of North American electricity and gas fundamentals are considered assets.



WHAT WE HAVE TO OFFER


ABOUT THE ROLE: As a member of the corporate development/energy markets leadership team, reporting to the VP, Energy Markets, you will play a key role responsible for establishing and developing relationships, identifying growth opportunities, and negotiating non-standard power, indigenous partnerships agreements, capacity and environment deals. You will provide leadership and strategic direction while evaluating and developing new commercial engagements and initiatives. You will work with counterparties and collaborate with the trading and strategy, and commercial markets teams to collectively meet and exceed profitability targets.


In this role, you will lead a team of several commercial individuals, overseeing the management of OPG\xe2\x80\x99s energy supply agreements, existing and new first nations equity partnerships, and the origination function, including OPG\xe2\x80\x99s legacy agreement with neighbouring judications.


You will be responsible for directly managing these functions, representing and advocating for OPG externally on committees and working groups, and advancing OPG\xe2\x80\x99s strategic objectives within this portfolio and various key initiatives to help our business commercial grow and develop.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Energy Markets Leadership: Represent OPG\xe2\x80\x99s energy markets group with external and internal stakeholders. Stay abreast of industry and regulatory changes across different markets. Provide oversight of the trading function, ensuring timely and effective support for the energy procurement/buy/sell function.
  • Business Partnerships, Relationship and Stakeholder Management: Manage the commercial relationships with others generating companies, marketers, ISO markets, agencies, and indigenous partners. Pursue business opportunities, develop industry contacts to expand networks and gain sale/purchase insights. Participate in relevant committees to promote OPG\xe2\x80\x99s interests. Build and maintain key relationships through strong networking and stakeholder engagement within and outside of the industry.
  • Visionary Business Development Leadership: Leverage commercial capabilities and knowledge in the industry to provide commercial strategic direction and manage the development of any new and potential business opportunities. Manage the development of new products and entry into new markets, including navigating OPG\xe2\x80\x99s approval process.
  • Strategic Commercial Advisory: Play a key role in continuing the success and development of commercial operations by ensuring that critical revenue and development needs are being met for the success of OPG. Participate proactively in cross-function teams engaged in major projects, strategic business initiatives and matters, developing and executing commercial strategies and contracts.
  • Indigenous Relations: As part of a team, directly manage the relationships, contracts and commercial agreements with OPG\xe2\x80\x99s First Nations equity partnerships, ensuring all partnership obligations are met; negotiate on behalf of OPG while ensuring all parties are happy with agreements in place.
  • Commercial Contract Management: Direct the management of energy supply agreements and a portfolio of transactions, maximizing shareholder value related to power-related agreements. Ensure all transactions are done following risk management controls and under board direction and authority. Renegotiate legacy agreements with Manitoba Hydro, Hydro Quebec, and New York Power Authority, and represent OPG as the operating committee member for these agreements.
  • Business Process & Technology: Ensure efficient operations and business processes are being met within the energy markets group. Ensuring staff safety, fiscal responsibility, due diligence and providing the department with the support and resources they need. Continuously analyze for opportunities for improvement. Manage the development of trading systems and energy markets tools and resources.
  • Team Development & People Management: Provide strategic direction, develop, and supervise the team, ensuring strong performance. Develop through mentorship, role modelling and real-time guidance. At the same time, continuing to build engagement and curiosity.
