The McGill-HEC Montr\xc3\xa9al Executive MBA Program is a joint venture between HEC Montr\xc3\xa9al and the Desautels Faculty of Management at McGill University. It confers a joint MBA diploma from the two universities. It is a bilingual program \xe2\x80\x93 all participants are competent in both English and French. The program is 16 months in duration, with nine face-to-face modules run by the faculty of both HEC Montr\xc3\xa9al and Desautels (McGill). In addition, the program contains a series of complementary pedagogical activities and projects, including a final applied research paper.

The program meets the needs of experienced high-performing managers who are key employees for their organization and are looking to build further expertise in the fields of management and leadership without putting their careers on hold to do so. This program is designed specifically for bilingual experienced managers. Participants must have a minimum of 10 years of work experience with a minimum of 5 years in management.

The mission of the program is to develop the next generation of leaders: those who are open-minded know how to ask good questions, have the ability to look at issues from a variety of angles, develop coherent and responsible solutions, and have the courage to act.

Position Summary:

The Director of the EMBA program is responsible for maintaining the highest program quality, including its operational and finance performance. The director provides leadership and direction on activities related to general administration of the EMBA program in support of the unit\xe2\x80\x99s goals and objectives, as well as the Faculty\xe2\x80\x99s overall mission of teaching. The incumbent oversees the planning of processes and policies for the program, interfacing with the Academic Directors and program faculty, as well as with the marketing and recruitment units at both the Desautels Faculty of Management and HEC Montreal. The director provides a liaison function with other units of the Desautels Faculty of Management, McGill University, and HEC-Montreal, including, but not limited to: the marketing units, McGill Executive Institute, Faculty of Graduate Studies, Student support. The Director also provides a liaison with external organizations such as the participants\xe2\x80\x99 sponsoring organizations and alumni\xe2\x80\x99s organizations. The administrative and operations team, which is led by this position, ensures that we deliver a superior experience to program participants, so that they can get the most out of the program.

As most EMBA modules are from Thursday to Sunday, approximately once per month, this job requires work during some week-ends.

Primary Responsibilities:

Administrative responsibilities

  • Oversee all the activities, both academic and administrative, for the program.
  • Plan, develop and implement administrative standards, practices and systems ensuring adherence to the policies of both McGill and HEC.
  • Direct the operations, administration, and logistics of the office, including budget and accounting responsibilities for the program for both universities, which are challenging at best in dealing with two different systems.
  • Lead the budget process for the program, staffing and academic activities; obtain approvals by both universities, ensuring new initiatives are incorporated to support the strategic direction of the program. Act as fund manager for program and manage the budget and daily financial operations.
  • Manage and supervise assigned support staff.
  • Interact with key stakeholders; foster and maintain relationships and partnerships with other areas of the University.
  • Oversees five committees for the program, i.e. Advisory Board, co-chairs with the Academic Director on two industry-based committees (one for core growth and one for internationalization of the program); acts as the Faculty representative on one alumni board; and acts as the EMBA representative at the EMBA council, which also serves as the liaison to other EMBA worldwide.
  • Recommend the appropriate use of space for staff and students, at both institutions, including appropriate IT and audio visual support.
  • Monitor and keep abreast of EMBA Program developments at other schools and propose new initiatives gained as a result.
  • Develop strong relationships with Executive MBA Council and other internal and external stakeholders at both universities.
  • Negotiate facilities, travel, meals and activities for 2 off-site modules and enter into related contracts.
Program and curriculum responsibilities
  • Actively participate in academic program development, and strategic planning for the program.
  • Is the primary liaison with McGill and HEC academics and other units at both schools and with external organizations.
  • Select and recruit program module directors, instructors, and coaches.
  • Recruit participants and direct the admissions process.
  • Manage and attend all modules; which span over 12 weekends, including the 10-day Worldly Mindset Module held at an international location.
  • Ensure that the program is always up-to-date and develop and implement new initiatives to refresh curriculum and ensuring pedagogy and content remain differentiators for program
  • Ensure overall curriculum consistency and modules fit and flow
  • Direct complementary learning activities (e.g., peer coaching process, knowledge fair, new business challenge)
  • Co-lead international module development and delivery, together with Module Director
Other Qualifying Skills and/or Abilities
Undergraduate degree, preferably in management. Extensive management experience, preferably in higher education. Excellent knowledge of planning, marketing, financial management, institutional budgeting, facilities management and human resources. Ability to effectively plan and delegate work, supervise and collaborate with senior administrators. Superior analytical skills and demonstrated ability to exercise sound judgment in applying and interpreting policies and procedures. Experience in customer relations with excellent interpersonal skills necessary to establish and maintain effective working relationships with key stakeholders at all levels, both internal and external. Technology savvy and comfortable working with different information technologies. Ability to lead and manage a team with emphasis in offering excellent service quality. Strong writing abilities. Able to manage different projects related to EMBA program. Fluency in both French and English, spoken and written. McGill University is an English language university where day-to-day duties may require English communication both verbally and in writing.
