The Public Affairs & Communications team seeks an experienced senior business writer and editor for the role of Director, Editorial Content. In this role, you will be responsible for producing best-in-class content on compelling topics related to all aspects of CPP Investments business and targeted to diverse global audiences. Your vision and leadership come from working as a business writer and/or editor producing compelling content for an investment firm, professional services firm or a top-tier business publication. As a storyteller you understand your audience's needs and communication channels to share relevant content. An understanding of capital markets and the global investing/economic landscape will allow you to develop authentic and impactful content for various initiatives including sophisticated thought leadership content (white papers, Op/Eds), speeches, editorial content for corporate website, corporate videos, and materials to support government and stakeholder engagement. You will also provide editorial counsel to colleagues; copy-editing colleagues' work; over time, establishing strong style standards amongst the broader department and designing a program to maintain and increase the level of writing fluency and skills amongst colleagues. Reporting to the Managing Director, Head of Corporate Affairs and working alongside other senior public affairs and communications professionals you will develop and manage external content for, thought leadership publications, targeted institutional investment communications, digital/social media platforms, and information campaigns for Canadians.

Position Requirements

• Strategic thinking and writing with a strong ability to conceptualize, develop, drive, and manage a wide range of high-performing relevant content on investment management industry related topics.
• Develop and execute editorial content to support CPP Investments thought leadership and brand initiatives integrating news, insights, and knowledge from across the organization.
• Gather, research, write and produce content ensuring it is on-brand and consistent in terms of style, quality and tone of voice, and optimized for search and user experience across media platforms, branded content, digital/social, mobile, video and print.
• Exercise solid content judgment and look across different information sources to uncover research-driven insights aimed at a sophisticated audience.
• Highly collaborative working closely with senior leaders to provide strong counsel, smart ideas and content development capabilities
• Manage multiple content/editorial projects in various stages of development simultaneously.

Qualifications

• A seasoned business professional in an editorial related function, including financial journalism, corporate communications, social and digital media content creation.
• BA, BS and/or MA, MS in, journalism, communications, business or a related field
• Exceptional writing and communication skills with a keen editorial eye for detail and a strong background in fact-checking.
• Ability to analyze external trends and internal developments and translate those to content opportunities.
• Proven ability to drive strategy and execution of large and complex, multi-disciplinary projects.
• A proactive, creative approach and positive mindset that favors innovation and continuous improvement.
• Able to thrive in a fast-paced environment and exhibit flexibility and adaptability to change.
