The Director of Construction is responsible for overseeing all phases of construction projects across our portfolio, from initial planning and budgeting through to final delivery. This role ensures projects are completed on time, within budget, and in alignment with company goals, safety standards, and brand expectations. The Director will lead project teams, collaborate with internal and external stakeholders, and drive operational excellence in all construction activities.

What You'll Do



Project Management: Oversee all aspects of restaurant construction projects, including budgeting, scheduling, and contractor management. Site Development: Work closely with real estate and design teams to assess site feasibility and pre-construction planning. Vendor & Contractor Management: Select, negotiate, and manage relationships with general contractors, architects, engineers, and suppliers. Budget & Cost Control: Develop project budgets, track expenses, and ensure cost efficiency while maintaining quality standards. Quality Assurance: Ensure all construction meets Shake Shack's brand and operational requirements. Timeline Management: Monitor project progress, address delays, and keep all stakeholders informed. Compliance & Permits: Ensure adherence to local building codes, zoning laws, and permitting processes. Sustainability & Efficiency: Incorporate sustainable building practices and innovative solutions where possible. Collaboration: Work closely with internal teams (real estate, design, operations) to ensure smooth project execution.

What You'll Need



Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Engineering, Architecture, or related field (Master's degree an asset). 10+ years of progressive experience in construction management, with at least 5 years in a senior leadership role. Proven track record managing large-scale, multi-site construction projects. Strong knowledge of construction methods, building codes, safety standards, and project management principles. Exceptional leadership, organizational, and problem-solving skills. Excellent communication and negotiation abilities. Ability to manage budgets, timelines, and multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment. Proficiency in project management and construction software (e.g., Procore, MS Project, AutoCAD).
