Design, Engineering, Manufacturing and General Contractor company based in South Surrey with clients across North America. Our 40-person team manufactures everything from one-off custom products; to high volume products for a specific customer, to in-house products and construction building systems, and sells them through a variety of distribution channels to multiple markets and customer segments.

OVERVIEW:



The Director of Construction is a key part of the Leadership team of the company and leads construction project delivery and is a member of the leadership team. The Construction group is principally focused on delivering institutional projects ranging in value from $10M to $40M and utilizing innovative products manufactured in house, with smaller ICI projects filling out the overall project portfolio. The successful candidate will be a strategic leader with a proven track record leading teams and delivering high-quality, on-time, and on-budget construction projects that help to build strong client partnerships.

You will lead a team that includes Project Services (made up of full time estimating, project coordination and project administration resources), and full time and contract resources dedicated to specific projects, including Project Managers, Site Superintendents and other site personnel.

RESPONSIBILITIES:



Project Leadership and Management:

Oversee the planning, execution, and completion of construction projects from pre-construction through to completion, ensuring they are delivered on time, within budget, on scope, and to the highest quality standards. Lead the Project Services team and each project team (project managers, site superintendents, subcontractors, etc.), providing guidance and support to ensure the development of comprehensive project schedules, budgets and resource plans so that project milestones and objectives are met. Provide regular project status updates to leadership, including early identification of risks and mitigation strategies. Maintain proactive communication with leadership on project performance, potential issues, and resource needs.
Design-Build Integration:

Take ownership of design-build integration, directing the resolution of design conflicts, ensuring constructability and the seamless integration of design and construction phases. Facilitate effective communication between architects, engineers, and construction teams to resolve design and construction issues. Ensure that manufactured products from other divisions are correctly specified, integrated, and installed within projects. Oversee the management of stakeholder relationships, including clients, regulatory bodies, and community groups, to ensure project alignment and support.
Construction Management Projects:

Lead Construction Management projects under CCDC 5A and CCDC 5B contract formats, acting as the client's representative throughout the construction process. Manage pre-construction services including constructability reviews, value engineering, cost estimating, and procurement planning during design development phases. Manage trade contractor procurement including tender processes, bid evaluation, contract administration, and performance monitoring to ensure quality and schedule compliance. Oversee cost control and reporting with transparent accounting, monthly cost reports, change order management, and GMP administration where applicable.
Safety & Quality Control:

Implement and enforce rigorous quality control processes to ensure project specifications and standards are met. Promote and maintain a strong safety culture, ensuring all site activities comply with health and safety regulations. Conduct regular site inspections and audits to monitor quality and safety performance. Proposal Development and Business Development: Lead the construction team's contribution to proposal development, overseeing estimating accuracy, technical approach, and project execution strategy through the estimating team Collaborate with Sales to develop compelling proposal content and participate in client presentations, providing construction expertise and past performance insights Evaluate project opportunities for constructability, resource requirements, and strategic alignment with department capabilities
Financial Management:

Prepare and manage project budgets, including cost estimates, forecasts, cash flows and financial reporting. Monitor project expenditures and implement cost control measures to optimize financial performance. Assist the Project Services and Projects teams to negotiate and manage contracts with subcontractors, suppliers, and vendors.
Intra-Company Coordination

Coordinate with manufacturing divisions as the general contractor, ensuring optimal scheduling and logistics for in-house manufactured components. Manage the interface between construction operations and manufacturing divisions, treating manufacturing as a key trade partner with enhanced coordination due to shared organizational ownership. Collaborate with Product, Sales & Marketing, and Design groups to identify and improve and develop EXO product lines.
Team Development and Leadership:

Mentor and develop team members, fostering a collaborative and high-performance work environment. Conduct regular performance evaluations and provide constructive feedback to team members. Identify and implement training and development opportunities to enhance team capabilities.

REQUIREMENTS:



Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, Architecture, or related field. Minimum of 10 years of experience in construction management, with at least 5 years in a leadership role. Demonstrable experience managing ICI construction projects ranging from $10M to $40M. Strong knowledge of design-build and construction management project delivery, with experience with typical CCDC contracts (e.g. 2, 5A/5B, 14, 30) required. Experience with CCDC 30 a strong asset. Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills. Proficiency in construction management software (e.g., Procore, MS Project) and familiarity with BIM (Building Information Modeling). Thorough understanding of construction methods, materials, and regulations. Strong financial acumen and experience in budget management and cost control. Superlative communication and presentation and skills.
