Purpose:
Ancillary Services provides a wide range of professionally managed campus services and amenities to enhance the student experience and support York University\'s mission, vision, and priorities. Reporting to the Assistant Vice-President (AVP), Ancillary Services, the Director, Bookstore, Printing and Mailing Services is responsible for the effective direction and management of the University\'s Bookstore, Printing & Mailing Services businesses and operations, including strategic planning, market research, business and partnership development, service enhancement, financial controls and performance, and operations management to deliver high-quality forward-thinking services that are designed with an entrepreneurial approach through the lens of the University\'s mission and institutional priorities. The York University Bookstore has two locations on the Keele campus in the York Lanes building, satellite stores in the Osgoode Hall Law School and the Schulich School of Business buildings, and a store on the Glendon campus. The Bookstore\'s mandate is to make available all course-related materials needed for students, while also providing broader services to the community, promoting the York brands, supporting conferences and events, and providing positive campus experiences to community members and visitors. With approximately $20 million in annual revenue, the Bookstore sells printed and digital course materials, general \'trade\' books and magazines, lab and art supplies, stationery, clothing and gifts including customized merchandise for Faculties and student organizations. The Bookstore, along with Print Services are self financing ancillary business units, requiring that commercial interests be balanced against the operations\' service mandates. Print Services produces stationery, secure printing of exams and diplomas, secure scanning and tabulation of multiple-choice examinations, printing of course materials, graphic design services, digital printing and a range of marketing and communications products. Print Services includes the Copyright Clearance Centre, which provides customized publishing services while ensuring that copyright royalties are respected. The publishing service prepares course kits (course packs) and other customized materials including books that are sold in the Bookstore, or distributed to students directly. Print Services generates approximately $1.5 million in revenue annually. Mailing Services is a centrally funded unit that conducts the distribution of incoming and outgoing mail and courier deliveries, delivering approximately 500,000 letters and parcels throughout both campuses to approximately 350 delivery points from its warehouse and sorting facility. The unit also facilitates direct mail campaigns, labeling and other logistics and shipping services.

Education:
Undergraduate degree in business, commerce, retail management, finance, marketing or a related field, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Master\'s in Business Administration (MBA) preferred.

Experience:
Seven (7) years of related experience in a large private or public sector organization, preferably in a University, student service environment and/or large retail environment is required.
Five (5) years of management experience required, preferably within a unionized environment.
Experience in business operations, strategic planning, facility and risk management, and a leadership role managing human, financial and operational resources required.
Experience managing campus retail/bookstores or large-format bookstores is preferred.
Experience managing printing or publishing operations is an asset.

Additional Notes:
Please note: This position requires the candidate to produce a verification of degrees(s), credentials(s), or equivalencies from accredited institutions and/or international equivalents at the time of interview. Typical office environment located within a fast paced, retail Bookstore operation. Occasional travel across and between campuses to attend different worksites.
  • Compensation:
York\'s CPM Compensation Framework has a salary grid consisting of 6 or 8 steps (depending on job grade) which is reviewed annually with possible adjustments, and a lump sum Performance Based Recognition Award. Employees will receive the grid adjustment and depending on performance, eligible permanent employees may move to the next step of the grid and may receive a lump sum Performance Based Recognition Award.Visit the CPM Compensation page on the HR Website to find out more about York\'s CPM Compensation Program.
