Sun Life Retail Advice & Solutions is one of the leading financial institutions that offer Canadians holistic advice and solutions including insurance, wealth and health. The Advisor Compensation Effectiveness team is a newly created team that will be the strategic owners of advisor compensation design, delivery, monitoring and governance.

Reporting to the AVP, Strategy, the Director, Advisor Compensation Effectiveness will manage the overall effectiveness of the revised advisor compensation program, inclusive of measuring the benefits realized through the compensation program, establishment of a program roadmap (compensation design and systems enhancements), as well as steering governance of advisor compensation with senior stakeholders.

What will you do?

End-to-end ownership of advisor compensation effectiveness and benefits realization of the revised advisor compensation program

  • Work closely with functional and business leaders to define and gain alignment around compensation objectives, priorities and tactical plans, (e.g., rewards & recognition, recruiting & strategic growth)
  • Oversee development, ongoing management and delivery of the advisor compensation monitoring dashboard, including process improvements and timely reporting
  • Partner with control functions to maintain view of existing compensation controls, identify and address gaps
Development of incremental changes to the advisor compensation model design and upgrades to the underlying compensation systems and tools
  • Propose options for compensation design changes based on quantitative and qualitative analysis
  • Ensure senior management understands compensation impacts, drivers and rationale behind compensation changes
  • Establish and manage roadmap for compensation systems and tool enhancements
  • Develop and implement change management and communication plans for all compensation design updates
Management of governance groups and engagement with Retail Advice & Solutions leadership team
  • Establish Advisor Compensation Governance Committee and Advisor Compensation Forum. Regularly engage senior management committee on advisor compensation trends, emerging proposals and direction on key changes. Regularly engage cross-functional stakeholder forum to share head office initiatives and trends that may impact advisor compensation.
  • Inform stakeholders on trends identified in advisor compensation, sales results, advisor conduct and controls
Team management
  • Provide leadership, guidance, motivation and coaching to direct reports
  • Effectively influence peers with no direct reporting relationships
What do you need to succeed?
  • Demonstrated leadership in co-ordinating the delivery of initiatives and working within a matrix organization
  • Strong creative and analytical problem solver, with a solid background working with data, conducting quantitative and qualitative analysis.
  • Interpreting data analysis results, and writing reports/presentations to executive audiences
  • Experience in quantitative and financial analytics, including using modelling tools and techniques is an asset.
  • Strong knowledge of distribution, wealth and /or insurance space; previous compensation design experience is an asset
  • Resourceful and rapid learner, able to work across many topics and domains
  • Results-oriented project management skills; well organized, with a high attention to details
  • Minimum 8 years of relevant business experience, ideally within insurance or financial services; knowledge of Sun Life\xe2\x80\x99s businesses would be an asset
  • University degree in business or related discipline; MBA or other relevant advance degree is an asset
  • Management consulting experience would be an asset

The Base Pay range is for the primary location for which the job is posted. It may vary depending on the work location of the successful candidate or other factors. In addition to Base Pay, eligible Sun Life employees participate in various incentive plans, payment under which is discretionary and subject to individual and company performance. Certain sales focused roles have sales incentive plans based on individual or group sales results.
