Position Summary

:

As a Directional Driller, you will operate drills to install underground utility conduits in a wide variety of environments and surfaces. Experience drilling or locating is required, but we are specifically looking for team players with a positive attitude, strong work ethic, and an eagerness to learn.

Your equipment must be inspected, maintained, and used safely every day. You will need to confirm that you have the necessary approvals and locates any time you drill. You will take direction from the project supervisor, but your long-term success will rely on your ability to organize and prepare for each job, anticipate issues before they happen, and exercise good judgment. Your other duties will include transporting equipment, locating for other drillers, and supporting other labour disciplines as the need arises on each project.

The starting wage will be based on skills and experience.

You are a driller who compromises standard procedures or safety practices in order to increase production. You don't demonstrate a high degree of respect for your equipment and the responsibilities associated with your job. You struggle to remain professional and productive when faced with challenges.

Key Responsibilities:

Operate Vermeer and Ditch Witch directional drills. Operate DCI locating systems. Regularly inspect and maintain your drill equipment, bore truck, and trailer. Safely load, unload, and transport equipment and materials between yards and job locations. Troubleshoot problems as they arise. Read and understand utility locates. Work with excavators, hydrovac operators, and other team members when working around existing utilities. Complete daily inspections and driver logs. Understand and implement CVOR and Book 7 requirements each day. Contribute to other crews as needed, regardless of the type of work they are doing. Engage in training including health and safety and job-specific skills.

Position Requirements:

Team player with a good attitude, work ethic, and communication skills. An open mind and the willingness to learn every day. Demonstrated commitment to health and safety. Experience operating directional drills and locating systems. Experience working with underground utilities or operating other types of equipment is an asset. DZ licence with a clean Driver Record and CVOR. AZ licence is an asset. Access to reliable transportation for travel to and from work. Track record demonstrating responsibility, craftsmanship, and a high degree of ownership over your work. Ability to perform physically demanding tasks, including lifting and carrying a weight range between 50-75 pounds, digging with a shovel or pick axe, or manually steering walk-behind machines. Ability to stand for extended periods and perform work while sitting, standing, leaning, crouching, kneeling, or in a prone position. Ability to read, write, and converse in English in a business environment. Secondary School Diploma or equivalent.
