Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Leading the company in identifying transmission opportunities in Ontario and to execute and win on those opportunities.
  • Leading the "deal team" (all relevant stakeholders across the business) to drive out a competitive bid to win the work.
  • Communicate on financials (to get deals done), planning requirements, real estate issues, permitting issues, environmental issues, indigenous issues, government relations issues, regulatory issues.
  • Exercise advanced negotiation skills to ensure the company is aligned, right up to the Executive Leadership team, indigenous partners, municipal government officials, provincial government officials, government agencies (environmental, permitting).
  • Continually provide recommendations to improve the "win" process.
  • Create and define a "Find / Win / Deliver" operating model as it relates to transmission pursuits. This includes contributions from across ELT and company. Focus on WHY and WHAT to pursue.
  • Lead and oversee pursuits efforts related to competitive transmission, working in the matrix organization to develop a strategic bid.
  • Lead a cross-company Steerco to ensure common themes, risks, opportunities across portfolios are presented and managed.
  • Navigate through matrixed organization and provide lean oversight and project management to bring structure and governance to transmission pursuits.
  • Develop internal engagement strategy & change management plan.
  • Ensure resources staffed and trained for initial transmission pursuits, both at a customer level and for data/research of opportunities.
  • Industry & regulatory stakeholders engaged, and alignment obtained, in particular for competitive transmission projects.
  • Customer engagement initiated, for large industrial and commercial, to assess medium-to-long-term electrification needs. Collaborate with Large Customer group in Planning.
  • Collaborate with Finance (Growth Team) for opportunities outside of Ontario, but that "touch" Ontario in terms of transmission development.
  • Oversee business partnerships in the organization, including those involving transmission build and those of a strategic nature, e.g., generators, service providers, etc.
  • Prepare reporting package to ELT and the Board highlight transmission development projects as directed to Hydro One, competitive projects, prospective projects, etc. including an Ontario map.
  • Change management is in place through the evolution of the function.
Selection Criteria

Qualifications and Experience:
  • Bachelor\'s degree is Finance and/or Engineering. A degree in Project Management is desirable.
  • 10 to 12 years of related experience (minimum 5-7 years at the Director level)
  • Utility experience is required to assess transmission opportunities in the Province, as well as to work with customers on their electrification needs.
  • Experience leading cross-functional teams to deliver timely results.
  • Effective at operating at both the strategic and tactical level to accomplish goals.
  • Ability to work in a matrix environment, navigate ambiguity and conflict
